Open for all participants!

Description:

Communication? It is natural we learn it since childhood.

Intuitively, drawing on new experience, we learn to deal with new challenges.

First, difficult contacts with patients and superiors.

An oral exam with a demanding professor.

Doping with bureaucracy.

Obscure argument with a significant other.

Is intuition really enough in these situations?

Have you ever had an impression that you could have made things go in a very

different direction, if only you possessed some tools and new some simple-to-learn

rules, but nobody have shown them to you before?

How about being in control of your emotions and able to quench the anger of others?

Increasing your patients trust in you?

Being able to communicate better even the most horrible news regarding them and

their loved ones?

Becoming more effective at handling everyday bussiness, say, switching your

university exam to a different date?

Persuading your nearest and dearest without coming through as pushy or

disrespectful?

This workshop will teach you how to communicate - one on one as well as in the

group.

You will learn to recognize the communicates you send for what they are.

We will show you how to utilize the Acceptance Mechanism™.

Page 4: th WIMCwimc.wum.edu.pl/wp-content/uploads/2015/05/11th-WIMC-workshop… · Imagine yourself in control, consciously utilizing effective mechanisms to improve your communication with

You will experience the enormous advantage of employing Non-antagonistic

Communication™, as well Extraction Communication™, released only in 2015!

You will see on the basis of real bussiness cases the power of communication done

the right way. You will get to know the importance of body language and start using

this knowledge right away!

Imagine yourself in control, consciously utilizing effective mechanisms to improve

your communication with the people around you. Whether its education,

professional or personal life – you can start yourself anew on any path!

Description:

At high concentrations, free radicals are hazardous for living

organisms and damage all major cellular constituents leading

to 'oxidative stress'. An excessive increase in free radicals

production has been implicated in the pathogenesis of cancer,

diabetes mellitus, atherosclerosis, neurodegenerative

diseases, rheumatoid arthritis, ischemia/reperfusion injury,

obstructive sleep apnea, and other diseases. Moreover, it was

sugessted that aging is partly a result of radical-mediated

oxidative damage. At the same time, at moderate

concentrations free radicals play an important role as

regulatory mediators in signaling processes.

In living organisms, the levels of free radicals and other ‘reactive species’ are controlled by a

complex web of antioxidant defense systems, which minimize (but do not completely

prevent) oxidative damage to biomolecules. Whereas in human diseases, this ‘oxidant–

antioxidant’ balance is tilted in favor of the reactive species, so that oxidative damage levels

increase. Thus, the great attention has been paid to the field of free radical chemistry as well

as to finding the potential sources of antixodants.

During the workshop you will have an opportunity to check antioxidant properties of

beverages using DPPH test. You will find out what products are rich of dietary antioxidants

and what supplements to recommend to patients in order to prevent coronary heart

diseases, strokes, some types of cancer and age-related diseases.

Description:

Laboratory tests give essential information on patients’ condition. It is estimated that

laboratory test results are the ground for up to 60-70% decisions made by physicians.

They have a significant influence on clinical and economical effectiveness, depending

on proper use and interpretation. Evidence based laboratory medicine puts stress on

validation of research methods, regulating the quality of tests and managing systems

of control.

The aim of this workshop is performing a

commercial ELISA test in order to

establish the accuracy and precision of

laboratory equipment and person

conducting the test.

A student, young scientist or member of a diagnostic team presumably dealt with

ELISA-based tests, as they are the most widespread regarding both scientific and

diagnostic tests.

The equipment, being the core of tests using microplates, should be subjected to

regular control. With the Pathozyme ELISA Sure test, each participant will be able to

individually perform control procedures:

- precision of microplate reader and washer

- linearity of microplate reader

The cerebral arterial circle described

by Thomas Willis in 17th century is

vital structure on the base of the

cerebrum that presents great clinical

importance in sustaining cerebral

anatomical variations of the circle

combined with unfortunate

tendency of circles arteries to form aneurysms or congenital anomalies such as

fenestrations, makes neurovascular interventions in its region very demanding. This is

why, knowledge of these variations in neuroradiology, neurosurgery and

During the workshop we give you possibility to observe common and rare anatomical

variations of cerebral arteries, its aneurysms and fenestrations with help of

will give you unique chance to try your own skills in microsurgical dissection of

cerebral arteries in conditions similar to that found in the operating theatre.

Description:

Technology and robotics in particular are often portrayed as the promising

alternative for costly human resourced care. Leading death causes in most of the

developed countries are non-communicable disease which usually concur with a

long-term course of disease. As a result, alternative ways of organizing care are

alluring. Robotics have become a growing field for care provision, but are posed with

the challenge to cater for the patient group that suffers most from chronic diseases:

the elderly. In this workshop, after a background sketch of the issues at stake, we will

discuss advances in robotics and how these can or are integrated in care. Students

are invited to share their views on what this promise entails and we will critically

review whether this promise is fulfilled or the medical-ethical issues that need to be

addressed.
