YEAR OF MERCY

Oh Child, Know Yourself

A fellow said: ‘bad enough he was in the pub, but now I have to be beside him at Mass’.

The point is that everyone is invited to the banquet of Jesus.

Jesus has strange ways of looking on who to invite and who are the most important.

There were strict codes of place-names and seating at any banquet. Jesus, of course, didn’t

care. He had upset things earlier by healing a sick man on the Sabbath. He started talking

about who would receive an invitation, especially since they had to walk through the narrow

door.

The community of Christ doesn’t prohibit differences that put separate us. He was always

saying this, especially to the proud and haughty. For others, life had taught them to be

humble and so enjoy this feast.

Humble people are grateful for small and big things; they pray often and pray easily; they

know they have faults no better or worse than most, and know they need God’s mercy;

they love children because they themselves are childlike, and yet they know they are not

humble all the time. They don’t take themselves too seriously and are compassionate to

the faults of others. They know who they are – in one way the least of all, but always

loved, always forgiven, always a child of God.

El Rostro de Cristo

Nosotros vamos, poco a poco, descubriendo el rostro de Jesús, su modo de vivir y su

Corazón en la medida en nos vamos fiando de Él y le vamos hacienda caso. La lectura y

escucha atenta de la Palabra de Dios, la confesión frecuente, la participación en la

Eucaristía, los momentos de intimidad con Dios en la oración, el ofrecer la jornada al

Señor… son momentos de gracia divina que nos va, poco a poco, permitiendo descubrir el

rostro, el modo de vivir y el corazón de Jesucristo.

Y el estilo de Jesús es la sencillez, la humidad, no llamar la atención, no pretender gloria

humana alguna, ya que no se trata de triunfar sobre nadie ni contra nadie. Recuerden las

sabias palabras del libro del Eclesiástico: «Hijo mío, en tus asuntos procede con humildad y

te querrán más que al hombre generoso. Hazte pequeño en las grandezas humanas, y

alcanzaras el favor de Dios».
