ZEUS DEBBIE HURD
This basket is made with Hand Split White Oak from trees Billy selects, cuts, and prepares by hand using homemade tools his Dad made and used. It has a square woven “Herringbone” bottom, a round top and solid oak handle. Billy will share the process of how trees are selected and show the tools used to split it into pliable weaving material. You will weave over a mold and should finish in class going home with a beautiful oak basket that should last a lifetime. Approx. 10” square bottom x 14” D round top x 9” deep All Levels Class, prep & material fee $90
Special tools required: Sharp Scissors & water bucket
This basket will work on your techniques of twill weave with space dyed reed, 4-rod wale and forming handles from the rim. A slightly different lashing idea makes finishing a little easier. Choices of space dyed reed available at class. You will need some hand strength for the rim. Approx. 14”L x 11”W x 8 ½”H Advanced Class, prep & material fee $72
TAPESTRY SHOULDER BAG JEANNE DUDLEY
INVASION GINA KIEFT
Friday pm
OCEAN BREEZE PIGGYBACK MARILYN PARR
This is 3rd in the series using the Amish crafted Piggyback handle. It is woven on an Amish made wood base. The challenge of this basket will be the shaping. Colors used are: denim, granny smith green, hyacinth, and teal. The button embellishment is not included in the price of the kit, but there will be a variety to choose from along with conchos that may be purchased to add on the leather handle if desired. The base will be weaver ready (spokes will be glued in for you). Approx. 10” x 18” x 18” H w/ handle Advanced Class, prep & material fee $105
Design your own pattern as you weave this bag over a cardboard mold (which you will keep). Learn increasing and decreasing weaving and outlining with triple twining to create the tapestry effect. Leather, wire, reed, cloth, cane, jute, seagrass, and broom corn can be used. You may bring something “special” to weave into the basket - - it will totally make the basket your own. The optional liner not only lines the basket but will also be used as the rim filler. Round reed will be the rim filler if you don’t choose the liner. The basket may not be completed in class, but finishing instructions will be provided in detail. A belt will be used for the leather handle. Approx. 13”L x 4”W x 11”H Advanced Class, prep & material fee $89 --- plus additional $10 for the liner if you choose to add it
Using smoked and your choice of a second color, weave this twill base using four different sized spokes. Using a play in twill, create the “creature like figures” that “invade” the side weaving. Spoke placement and weaving tension will be discussed as well as the twill pattern creation. Choose closed notched handle or leather side handles for easy carrying. Rim with matching smoked and waxed linen. Approx. 11” x 7” x 7 ½” (15” with handle) Intermediate Class, prep & material fee $56 Special tools required: spoke weight
DIAMOND CEDAR COASTER POLLY SUTTON
Learn a 5-3-1 twill using split cedar bark. This flat base will be held in place with a round of twining. Materials will be provided for 2 coasters. One piece will be finished in class. All Levels Class, prep & material fee $50 Special Tools Required: Spray bottle, tapestry needle
T’S TOTE BILLY OWENS
SHOW STOPPER GINA KIEFT
CEDAR IN MANY COLORS POLLY SUTTON
A variety of dyed binder cane colors creates the backdrop for this cedar bark basket. The technique is twining with easy “X’s” and finished with slanted lashed border. Approx. 3 ½” x 3” x 4 ½”H Intermediate Class, prep & material fee $115 Special tools: spray bottle, tapestry needle, small old towel, basket shears

Prepare to weave this basket by lashing the round reed spokes together. Learn Japanese weave and triple twine with a step up. Many color options will be offered to weave with. While weaving up the sides, work on shaping while triple twining with three different size weavers (one is flat oval) to create a beautiful spiral pattern. Top the basket with a braided rim. Approx. 13” x 9” x 4 ½””H Intermediate Class, prep & material fee $42
PATIENCE II DEBBIE HURD
Patience is needed to achieve this large basket filled with techniques. Students will weave: 4-rod wale, double triple twined arrows, triple twining, French Randing, double lashing, and curls to create an arrow design. This is black & natural reed on a wood base with 2 leather handles. Approx. 13”W x 9”H Advanced Class, prep & material fee $74 Special tool: small bent tip packer
WITH A TWIST TOTE MARILYN PARR
Starting with an Amish made wood base the spokes are weaver ready (glued in for you), making a black and natural design. The triple twine takes on a “twisted” look that ends in a swirl, capturing a charm of your choice that is provided. The Amish crafted leather handles accent the basket with Conchos centered and attached at the top. The base will be weaver ready (spokes will be glued in for you). Approx. 13” x 6” x 12” tall w/handle. Intermediate Class, prep & material fee $90

RIVERS JEANNE DUDLEY
If you have never tried or just love doing “whirls” this is the perfect basket. This is a simple basket but with a unique “split” Amish crafted leather handle. Practice your “whirls” and possibly learn a neat way to weave them on without the dyed reed bleeding on the natural reed. There will be several color choices. SKILL LEVELS Please evaluate your skill level not only for your total weaving experience, but also for your experience in the techniques offered in the class you are considering. Advanced Beginner Weavers are becoming proficient in basic weaving techniques including over/under weaving, start/stop weaving, twining, and rim lashing. They are learning to control shape. They will be introduced to new pattern weaves such as twill, different twining methods, and rim and handle finish variations. If you are taking a class in a material you have never used, you are a beginner in that class. Intermediate Weavers are gaining proficiency in weaving techniques. They have no trouble setting up bases, twining, over/under weaves and rims using the materials offered for a class. Advanced Weavers are proficient or have mastered weaving techniques. They are ready to take on more challenging projects.
Teachers depend on students to have achieved this skill level to attend their class. Basic skills are not reviewed due
to time constraints.
This basket is woven on a round hardwood base. Some of the techniques include: lots of 4-rod wale, continuous 2/2 twill with a step and double-cross lashing. Space-dyed reed is used for twill and lashing. A variety of colors will be available at class time. Approx. 10”D x 7”H Intermediate Class, prep & material fee $44
MINIATURE SWEETGRASS POLLY SUTTON

She and Candace Katz co-own the business, Bases To Weave. www.basestoweave.com
Gina Kieft Rothbury, MI Email Address: [email protected] Gina began weaving baskets at the local Community Education when her youngest son was a year old – that was over twenty years ago. At this time she has over 100 patterns written, has had works published in two basket magazines and has won several awards. Having the opportunity to teach her love of basketry at different venues in the Mid-west and East Coast is something she is grateful for. She enjoys teaching at her local Art’s Council and Council on Aging as well as scouts, private groups, and in her home studio. Gina is a “colorful girl” selling dyed reed all over the country on her web site – www.ginasbaskets.com Trying new mediums, new colors and new techniques is something she loves; however twill is her favorite!
Billy Owens Jenkins, MO Email Address: billy,[email protected] Billy is a 2
nd generation White Oak basket maker from the Ozark Mountains of SW Missouri. He selects all his own

She started out as a student attending conventions organized by the Association of Michigan Basketmakers. Five years ago she was approached by Crossroad Weaving Guild in Okemos, Michigan to present and teach a couple of her designs that she had made for a local quilt shop. From the encouragement that she received, an adventure has begun. She really enjoys working with wood bases and designing unique leather handles for her baskets. This has also brought her in touch with local Amish gentlemen that take her ideas from paper into reality. She feels that it is an honor to be able to spend time with other basket weavers and hopes to share her experiences and knowledge that she has gathered with others. Her web site is: www.4loveofbaskets.com
Polly Sutton Seattle, WA Email Address: [email protected] Polly is a full time studio artist and teacher of basketry from Seattle, WA.
