    GeneralDescription

Foam liquid concentrates are suitableor use on fres involving ordinary hy-drocarbon petroleum products, and

some oam liquid concentrates mayalso be suitable or use on fres involv-ing polar solvent uels. The fre pro-tection system designer frst identifesthe uel load and selects the oam liq-uid concentrate according to its abilityto be used or a given uel load. Uponselecting the oam liquid concentrate, the designer then selects equipment, including discharge devices, basedon listing/approval compatibility o theequipment with the concentrate.

Discharge devices all into one o ourcategories:

    Foam-Water Sprinklers

    Foam-Water Spray Nozzles

    Non-Aspirating Spray Nozzles

    Standard Sprinklers

TFBP (Tyco Fire and Building Prod-ucts) provides a number o standardspray sprinklers and oam-water sprin-klers that can be used with oam liq-uid concentrates. The data provided inthis technical data sheet is intended toprovide compatibility inormation withthe ollowing Aqueous Film FormingFoams (AFFF) manuactured by Ansul:

    Ansulite 1% AFFF (1609-95CG)

    Ansulite 3x3 Low Viscosity

    (3%) AR-AFFF Ansulite 3% AFFF (AFC-3A)

    WARNINGSThe TFBP Sprinklers reerenced here-

in must be installed and maintainedin compliance with this document, aswell as with the applicable standardso the National Fire Protection Asso-ciation, in addition to the standards o

any other authorities having jurisdic-tion.Fair d s ma impair hprfrman f hs prds.

The owner is responsible or maintain-ing their fre protection system and de-vices in proper operating condition. The installing contractor or sprinkler

manuacturer should be contactedwith any questions.

Technical DataApprovalsUL Listed and FM Approved. Reer toTables 1, 2, and 3, as applicable.

Minimum Application RateThe Minimum Application Rate is aunction o oam liquid concentrate, uel load, and approval agency. Reerto Tables 1, 2, and 3, as applicable.

Minimum Inlet PressureThe Minimum Inlet Pressure is theminimum starting pressure or the dis-charge device or purposes o pro-ducing oam. Reer to Tables 1, 2, and3, as applicable. The Minimum InletPressure may need to be increased tomeet the Minimum Application Rate asa unction o sprinkler spacing. For ex-ample a Minimum Inlet Pressure o 7psi or a discharge K-actor o 5.6 pro-

duces 14.8 GPM. Assuming a sprinklerspacing o 10 t. x 10 t. (100 t2.), thetheoretical application rate would thenbe 0.148 GPM/t2. However, i the re-quired Minimum Application rate is0.16 GPM/t2, The Minimum Inlet Pres-sure would need to be increased to8.2 psi. or the sprinkler spacing wouldneed to be decreased to a maximum o92 t2. In all cases the Minimum Appli-cation Rate requirements override theMinimum Inlet Pressure requirements.

InstallationDepending on the nature o the haz-ard, oam water sprinkler systems mayuse automatic (closed) sprinklers ornon-automatic (open) sprinklers. Inthe case o non-automatic sprinkler in-

stallations, usually automatic (closed)sprinklers are frst installed with theirprovided usible link or rangible bulbheat sensitive element. This procedurewill provide or the ability to hydrostati-cally test the system. Ater successul-ly meeting the system hydrostatic testrequirements, the usible link or ran-gible bulb heat sensitive element canthen be removed to provide a non-au-tomatic (open) discharge device.

LimitedWarrantyProducts manuactured by Tyco Fire& Building Products (TFBP) are war-ranted solely to the original Buyer or

    OrderingProcedure

Reer to the TFP Data Sheet reer-enced in Tables 1, 2 or 3 or inorma-tion on ordering standard spray sprin-

    klers and oam-water sprinklers.

cAutIoNExtreme care is to be used when re-

moving usible link or rangible bulbheat sensitive elements to avoidpersonal injury. Wear saety glasses.Contain the element within a dispos-

able cotton rag or several layers opaper towels beore prying a usiblelink or snapping a rangible bulb. Thesize and thickness o the cotton ragor the layers o paper towels must

be sufcient to completely envelopthe usible link or rangible bulb el-ement so as to cushion the releaseo the usible element or breaking o

glass, as well as be able to avoid re-lease o any parts or ragments. Dis-card protective rag or towels with-out unwrapping the captured pieceso the usible link or rangible bulb
