Textual Analysis: PART ONE

Week One

This assignment’s focus is helping you to work on building specific sections of what will be assessed in your Textual Analysis Assessment (TAA).

DAY ONE

Watch the trailers for the 3 prescribed films. Select a film to screen, research and analyze. Go to St Clair Film to view film links.

DAY TWO

Once the assignment has been given, you will have 24 hours to select your film.

Research Film and Filmmaker Background (by day 4)

Once you have selected the film, you will want to do some general research. This involves identifying the director, country of origin, year it was produced, critical response (from published, professional critics). During this time, you will also want to see if there is any mention of theme from the director or filmmaking team. Doing this will help inform future steps and decisions as this assignment progresses.

DAY FOUR

Research is due on DAY FOUR. Upload to SEQTA

DAY SEVEN

Watch the selected Film and Select a 5 MINUTE SEGMENT (by day 7)

You will watch the film, and select a five minute extract to conduct your analysis on. Choose a scene(s) rich in elements and context in order to provide an in-depth analysis.

Keeping in mind themes of the film you discovered in your research. If you did not uncover a theme, you will need to consider the research on the director that will help you narrow down what story/idea the director is trying to communicate to his/her audience.

While watching, see how the mise-en-scene elements are executed to articulate that idea/theme. This will help you select an image from your film. This image will be used for your textual analysis.
