The higher your grade point average, the higher your class rank.

Final GPA is used to determine class rank.Grade points are determined on 100 point scale.

Presenter
Presentation Notes
This also can be found on your class rank. Class rank along with quartile is an important factor during the college application process for admission. It is extremely important that all freshmen get off to a great start as it becomes increasingly difficult to move the GPA as years pass.

Page 24: TEXAS CITY HIGH SCHOOL - Texas City Independent School ... · oRemind 101 oHouse Bill 5 Graduation Requirements oEndorsements oCourse Selection Process/Timeline oAdvanced Academics

Pre-AP and AP classes are weighted. Weighted points are awarded at the end of each

semester. (10 points per semester) These points are not reflected on your report card,

but become part of your GPA. All students in AP courses are expected to take the AP

exam. By entering a Pre-AP course, you are agreeing to stay in

that class all year, unless you are not successful in passing.

Progress reports are issued at 3 week intervals during a 9 weeks grading period. An Pre-AP/AP student is required to maintain an average of 70 or higher at each grading period. If the student fails to do so, the following will take place:

The first time a student does not maintain a 70 or better during a 3 week grading period, the teacher will create an intervention plan with the student to address the root cause(s) of the student’s struggles.

If the student is not passing by the end of the next 3 week grading period, parent/teacher conference will be scheduled to advise both the student and the parent that the student will be placed on official academic probation unless their grade improves.

Students will then be given 3 more weeks to improve their grade. If the student’s grade is not passing at the end of this 3 week period, the student will be removed from the course.

If a student fails for the semester, they will be automatically removed.

Occasionally, a student, parent, or teacher may realize that enrollment in a Pre-AP or AP course is not in the student’s best interest. In such cases, please refer to the district handbook for the proper procedures.
