At the 1 p.m. ceremony, graduates from the College of Arts and Sciences crossed the stage. The graduates from the Frank H. Dotterweich College of Engineering received their degrees at 4 p.m.Students receiving their master’s and doctoral degrees were recognized within their academic colleges.During the commencement ceremonies, Chelsea Nkrumah, Student Government Association president, presented the Distinguished Student Awards. Anissa Hernandez, president of the Javelina Alumni Association, presented a university ring to one deserving graduate.Major Thomas J. Troyn represented the A&M- Kingsville ROTC and commissioned one cadet. Emmanuel Yambir was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the United States Army at the 4 p.m. ceremony. The keynote speaker for all three ceremonies was Charles W. Schwartz, member of the Board of Regents of The Texas A&M University System. Terry McDevitt, interim director of communications for The Texas A&M University System, brought greetings. About Charles W. Schwartz Charles W. Schwartz is a Partner, Houston Office Leader, and Head of Litigation at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP. He graduated from the University of Texas Law School in 1977 and Harvard Law School with an LL.M. in 1980. Schwartz is a member of the American Law Institute. He is a former director of the State Bar of Texas from 2000 to 2004 and served as its chairman from 2002 to 2003. He is a Life Benefactor Fellow of the American Bar Foundation and is a Sustaining Life Fellow of the Texas Bar Foundation and Houston Bar Foundation. He received the Dan Rugeley Price Memorial Award from the Texas Bar Foundation in 2004. He served as a member of the Texas Commission for Lawyer Discipline from 2008 to 2014.

About Charles W. Schwartz
Charles W. Schwartz is a Partner, Houston Office Leader, and Head of Litigation atSkadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP. He graduated from the University of TexasLaw School in 1977 and Harvard Law School with an LL.M. in 1980.
Schwartz is a member of the American Law Institute. He is a former director of the StateBar of Texas from 2000 to 2004 and served as its chairman from 2002 to 2003. He is aLife Benefactor Fellow of the American Bar Foundation and is a Sustaining Life Fellowof the Texas Bar Foundation and Houston Bar Foundation.
He received the Dan Rugeley Price Memorial Award from the Texas Bar Foundationin 2004. He served as a member of the Texas Commission for Lawyer Discipline from2008 to 2014.

Schwartz has been recognized by numerous publications, including Chambers USA:America’s Leading Lawyers for Business, 2013 BTI Client Service All-Stars, BestLawyers in America and Texas Lawyer Go-To Guide.
He was appointed to the Board of Regents by Gov. Rick Perry in 2013. He serves aschair of the Committee on Finance and as a member of the Committee on Academicand Student Affairs and Policy Review Committee. He also serves as special liaison toA&M System Research. His term expires February 1, 2019.
