Trevor Ball writes: The BIG Kick off ........ is a month away and this year will see the ‘Terriers’ entering 3 teams in the Cambs Mini League at U8, U9 and U10 age levels. The U11 team are pre-paring for the big stage of 11 a-side football and will compete in the Cambridge Colts League. A big thanks to Regent Construc-tion who have become our latest sponsor and have provided this team with a smart new playing kit.Well Done...... to all our teams last year on the pitch and also to the U9s who achieved a brilliant 2nd place out of 50 other teams in the seasons sporting awards. More congrat-ulations are in order for Teversham Primary School pupil Shaheb Ali who after a fantastic season has been rewarded with a place in the Cambridge United U9s Youth Development Squad.1st Terrier to grace Wembley.... goes to our U11 Lewis Cross who in May, led the Cam-bridge United team out onto the pitch for the Play Off Final v Exeter City. Unfortunately the U’s were beaten, but I am sure Lewis had a great day and hopefully in future we will see more ‘Terriers’ appearing at the stadium.Good Luck..... to all our teams for the sea-son ahead, particularly the new U8 team and hopefully soon we will have some informa-tion on the new U7 side. Don’t forget that Saturday mornings is football morning down at the Rec and the players would appreciate as much support as possible - the Tea Bar is always open!!And finally....... a big thanks to Teversham School and in particular Mr Read who over the past 3 years has helped us form a very close link with the school. From all at our Club, we wish you a happy retirement. For more information on the ‘Terriers’ visit

All Saints Church, TevershamTom Wakeling writes: June and July have been very important months for the church. On 7th June another wedding took place. Cherie arrived at church in a horse drawn carriage - very romantic - to marry Simon. Our very best wishes to them both. The Summer Supper took place on 20th June at the home of Melvin and Christine, who worked very hard to arrange an excellent evening for for-ty members and friends of the church. The 27th June marked the celebration in the church of the life of Leslie Worsdell O.B.E., D.F.C. Les-lie and his family were lifelong supporters of the church and its activities. The service was attend-ed by approximately 200 people, family, friends and colleagues from Marshalls. The children from our local primary school formed the choir and Tony Kirby played the organ. A reception followed at Marshalls Airport. Leslie was a pilot, experienced many types of aircraft and the flypast included a Spitfire which was a fitting tribute. Leslie Worsdell was a man who we were proud to have known. And so to the Autumn - 20th September will be the wedding day of Lee and Suzanne. We are sure they will have a lovely day.Our Harvest Supper will be held at the School on *Friday 19th September. A good meal, drinks and entertainment - all for £8.00. Please contact Helen C. 293052 or Christine C 295181, since we hope you will be there! The Harvest Festival will be in Church on *21st September at 11.00am - an important day in the Church calendar, so do try to attend.Sunday 9th November is Remembrance Sunday. A day to remember men from our village who died in the two World Wars. Visiting the Somme region in France recently brought home the hor-rors of war and the tragic loss of so many young lives. Our forces are still fighting wars and lives are still being lost. Please come to our Remem-brance Memorial at 10.50am on Sunday 9th No-vember to spare a thought and a prayer for our forces still at war. Finally, advance notice of the Christingle services to be held in Church on Sunday 21st December at 3.30pm. *Dates subject to confirmation.

We would like to thank those people who gave donations and attended our sale in March. We raised a total of £219, which enabled us to have a coach trip around Suffolk, with a pub lunch and a visit to Bury for a little shopping. If you would like more information about the Club, please contact Ros Thulborn on C. 295155.

Christmas LightsAppeal Total 2007

Robin would like to thank everyone who gave donations to his Christmas light ap-peal. He raised £263.07 which has once

again been donated to the Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus Association.

Volunteers needed Cambridge Mencap is seeking volunteers to support a child or young person with a learning disability.

You could support someone to play games, enjoy arts and crafts, play in the park, go swimming or just watch a DVD in the young person’s home. Your support could help the young person develop their so-cial skills, interests, independence and self confidence, whilst also providing valuable respite time to parents and carers.

If you could spare a few hours one evening of every month then you could be doing something new, or something you already do and enjoy, whilst making a BIG differ-ence to a young person’s, and a family’s life.

Interested? Find out more by contacting Robert Wallace, Volunteers Support Co-ordinator, by Phone: 01223 883140, Text: 07835 101621 or email: [email protected].

Cambridge ACRECut your Carbon

Jo Fitzpatrick, Senior Project Officer at Cam-bridgeshire ACRE writes ‘You may be aware of the ‘Cut your Carbon’ campaign. I am the person to talk to about that if you or anyone in your community are thinking of a project and looking into the funding. I am more than happy to come out and talk about any ideas anyone in the community may have. I will be running a workshop about the campaign in October, so if you are interested, please let me know and I will email with further de-tails. Teversham Youth GroupPaolina writes: “Teversham Youth Group have been enjoying the lovely weather re-cently and have been participating in lots of sports activities at Borley Way play area. We are hoping to buy some more outdoor equip-ment as not all the younger members like to play football or cricket. Everyone is looking forward to the trip to Legoland on 13th Sep-tember. There has been lots of interest and places are filling rapidly on a first come, first served basis. For more information, please contact Brigid Malone on 01223 293404 or 07977 545573.The Group are also very grateful to Borley Brothers who are in the process of making a new noticeboard for the sole use of the Youth Group. This is very exciting and members are currently discussing what to put in it. Keep your eyes peeled! We are also in dis-cussions with one of the parents, James Bee who is going to help the group set up their own website, which can then link to the Par-ish Council website. The group is lucky to have dedicated youth volunteer workers, senior youth members so a big thank you to them, especially Natalie Richardson who is taking the lead in sports activities.”

Proposed Boundary ReviewFollowing the article in the last edition of the News, questionnaires, produced by SCDC were delivered by the Parish Council to eve-ry property within the area SCDC propose to move into the City. A total of 89 responses were sent back to SCDC. 60 were opposed to the changes, 25 for and 4 did not know. The Parish Council are strongly opposed to the changes. However, at a recent meeting at SCDC, their Electoral Committee agreed to submit the boundary review with no changes. We understand that we will be given the op-portunity for further comment/consultation in the future. Any changes will not happen for several years and the Parish Council will con-tinue to represent all residents in our parish ‘business as usual’.

Parish Council Meeting Dates1st Sept at Cherry Hinton Junior School6th October at Teversham Primary School3rd Nov at Cherry Hinton Junior School1st December at Teversham Primary School

Current ProjectsWe are currently working on repairs to the fence at the play area at Whitgift Road and moving the pedestrian gate at the recreation ground. Tree roots are moving the current gate out of position, stopping the gate from closing properly. The new gate will provide a secure barrier between the rec and the concrete road. We are also in the process of installing new swings at the play area in Lady Jermy Way.
