Testosterone / estrogen:By: Ray Peat PhD

Back when the standard treatment for breast cancer included large doses of estrogen, I realized thatParacelsuss fame deri!ed largely from his success with the "rinci"le of a""lying the medicine, not to the

wound, but to the sword that caused the wound#

$strogen and %&rays were among the first carcinogens to be studied intensi!ely, and then they 'uickly came

into thera"eutic use in treating cancer# (s a Paracelsian, I argued that the "atient would be better off ifshe could gi!e the treatments to her "hysicians, instead of taking them herself# If the world had listened to me

then, there would now be less breast cancer, and fewer "hysicians# )The incidence of breast cancer is closely

correlated to the a!ailability of medical care* +est irginia, with its wonderfully low le!el of medical care, has the lowest breast cancer mortality in the -#.#

The current "ro"aganda suggests that DI0, "resumably e%tracted from or synthesized from cruciferous!eges, encourages the breakdown of estrogen 1estradiol2 into the 3 hydro%y estrogen fraction, lowers 45

hydro%y estrogen, inhibits the "roduction of .6B7 and therefore allows more free testosterone to be

a!ailable#The data you sent suggests that 3 or 8 or 45 hydro%y estrogen may all induce strand breaks in D9( and

initiate tumors, whereas estrogens enhance cell "roliferation#

    uestions:

4&estrogen is needed in small "hysiological 'uantities# +hile orthodo%y/"harmaceutical com"anies all talkabout estrogen deficiencies, it ;would a""ear that estrogen dominance/e%cess is +here is the

    balance?

(&It is needed for masculinizing the fetal brain, and for "roliferation of mammary, uterine, and "ituitary

cells, but those functions are achie!ed with a !ery !ery short e%"osure time# The longer the e%"osure, the

more degenerati!e side effects there are#

3&other than @uggling "rogesterone/"regnenalone/thyroid, is there any other way to##

    a&su""ress e%cess estrogen

(&The Biskinds showed that, other things being e'ual, the amount of dietary "rotein could determined

whether the li!er remo!ed 4AA of the estrogen that reached it, or none# Cater, a similar effect on li!er

estrogen metabolism was shown for thyroid hormone# (romatase, in any tissue, is inhibited by thyroid and

    "rogesterone#

    b&increase "rogesterone

(&If cholesterol is ade'uate, thyroid and !itamin ( )retinol go!ern its con!ersion into"regnenolone/"rogesterone, assuming the system isnt destroyed by P-( or other to%ins#

    c&increase testosterone

(&Thyroid tends to normalize "roduction and metabolism of testosterone, for e%am"le by lowering serotonin#

&E&cruciferous !eges do seem to ha!e some influence on hormonal ratios#

Do they in fact, reduce .6B7 thereby increasing free testorterone?

(&The idea of )"rimarily an artifact of laboratory "rocedure e'ualling hasbecome one of the current delusions of medicine# I gi!e some e%am"les in my newsletter on thyroid

    tests, www#efn#org/Fray"eat

&(nd would that mechanism also increase free estrogen? 8&6ow does one accelerate the breakdown of

estrogen into its metabolites, and is this a good idea?

(&Its sulfation and glucuronidation inacti!ate it and lead to its e%cretion#

G&Hombucha was heralded as a source of glucoronic acid which a""arently aided in the con@ugation ofestrogen# alcium d&glucarate a""arently does the same# (re these good sources of nutrients to reduce

    estrogen?

(&I doubt that Hombucha is safe for general use, but glucuronic and glucaric acids are "robably )like as"irinhel"ful in "rotecting tissues against estrogen#
