Testimonial – Medical Help SureSave provides over 300,000 Australian travellers with insurance each year. Most travellers have an amazing holiday experience, however some require assistance whilst on their getaway. Whilst on a group road trip in the United States, SureSave traveller Trudy Rice found herself in the latter category when she and a few others in her group became unwell with Gastroenteritis. Trudy contacted SureSave’s emergency assistance team, who were able to offer her reassurance from the first call. Her claim was registered and she was put in touch with an emergency call out doctor, who assessed her situation over the phone and arranged to visit her the next morning. Trudy Rice said: I’m a travel agent, so I’m used to travelling and hosting groups of travellers overseas. Earlier this year, I took a group of travellers over to the United States on a road trip from Phoenix to Las Vegas. When we arrived in Las Vegas, one of the girls in our group complained that she thought she was going to faint, so I took her up to the room. Later that evening, I also began to feel unwell, and I woke up the next morning quite ill. I wasn’t sure if it was a tummy bug or food poisoning, but the symptoms lingered for two to three days, so I thought I should see a doctor. Unfortunately, the hotel I was staying at advised they didn’t have a doctor, and that I would have to go to the hospital. I knew that I wouldn’t be able make it all the way to the hospital as I was feeling too unwell. Given that it was also the weekend of the Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Manny Pacquiao fight, Las Vegas was extremely busy and I knew I’d probably have a day’s wait ahead of me at the hospital. At that moment in time, I would have paid $1000 for that level of reassurance. Of course I didn’t need to as it was all part of my SureSave travel insurance policy. When I spoke to the doctor late on Sunday night in Las Vegas, he asked if I needed to see him straight away, but as the symptoms tended to subside while I slept, we arranged to have another call at 9am the next morning to assess and that he would visit me at the hotel afterwards. He gave me his local number and we even did a test call to make sure I could reach him. He said that if I needed anything, I was to call him right away. During this time, another two members of the group had also become unwell. When the doctor telephoned at 9am I informed him that there were now three of us in the group that needed medical attention. He came to the hotel 40 minutes later and treated each of us in our own rooms. The next day, we were fine and ready to board our plane to New York and continue on with the rest of our holiday. The level of care that we received was unbelievable. If we hadn’t been able to access treatment and care from the doctor in Las Vegas, I don’t know what we would have done. At our travel agency, we don’t offer any other travel insurance except SureSave. I won’t sell a policy that I know isn’t going to respond with the same level of care that SureSave did. If we hadn’t been able to access treatment and care from the doctor in Las Vegas, I don’t know what we would have done. At about 9pm on Sunday evening, not knowing what else to do, I called the SureSave’s contact number. I spoke to a lovely guy who reassured me that I had done exactly the right thing by calling them. He registered my claim, took all my details and then advised me that at the end of the call he would transfer me through to their doctor in Las Vegas. Whilst on the call, he told me that after I had seen the doctor and had been treated, if I needed any other advice on the rest of our trip, I could call him back at any time and be put through to a triage nurse. Well I nearly burst into tears with relief!
