PATROL Overview 5

• The PATROL (Position Authenticated Tachograph foR OSNMA Launch)

objectives:

• First smart tachograph (User Terminal)

• Supporting the OS-NMA

• Based on Teseo V

• Enhanced with advanced spoofing detection algorithms.

• Validation platform

• Allowing end-to-end testing of the user terminal -> KPIs

• Supporting simulation of advanced spoofing attacks

• Generation of OS-NMA data

• Modelling of user environments.

• Covering both simulated and live test scenarios

Page 6: Teseo V: OS-NMA Enabled Dual- Band Chipset

Teseo V in PATROL project 6

• First phase completed

• Preliminary tests of OS-NMA processing using

signals/scenarios from simulator.

• Improvements of OS-NMA processing

identified (implementation for second phase).

• Second phase foreseen to start July 2019

• OS-NMA SIS testing, extensive test in real

environment

• Teseo V is the OS-NMA enabled multi-frequency/multi-constellation GNSS

receiver used in the PATROL project demonstrator(s)

• OS-NMA signal processing aligned to Galileo Navigation Message Authentication

Specification for Signal-In-Space Testing – v1.1

• Dual frequency processing (L1/E1 + L5/E5a)

Page 7: Teseo V: OS-NMA Enabled Dual- Band Chipset

OS-NMA support in Teseo V• Trusted PVT – Fix using only satellites for which OS-NMA check valid

• Blue trace reports fix status as extracted from GGA NMEA sentences, where

10 = Fix not trusted,

11 = Trusted fix.

• Red trace reports the number of satellites used for the fix.

PATROL project - Experimentation• In PATROL project Phase 1, several tests using simulated signals have been

performed for assessing both the correct support of Galileo OS-NMA and

preliminary performances.

• Testing harsh urban, urban, suburban, open sky (static and kinematic)

• With or without attacks (meaconing, spoofing, SCER)

• Evaluates availability, latency, TTF(A)F, etc..

• Threats implemented

• Meaconing

• Simplistic/advanced Spoofer

• OS-NMA SERVICE DOS

• Basic, Balanced Predictive SCER (Secure Code Estimation and Replay)

PATROL Phase 1 result summary 9

• Zero or minor effects on availability

• < 0.015% in a single test

• Negligible effect on position accuracy

• Avg. error (w.r.t. reference without errors) ~1m horizontal

• Effect on TTF(A)F

• Warm start: 30s – 60s (depending on the user environment)

• Cold start: 30s – >300s (depending on the user environment)

• DSM reception has a considerable effect on TTF(A)F

• Effect only at the start-up

• Can be avoid if

• The receiver has been switched off for a short period (e.g. 2 hours)

• Start with not-authenticated navigation data (TBD)

• Retrieve from internet
