PRESIDENT’S REPORT As I sit and reflect on the past year at Trotters I am filled with of a sense of pride in our club, where we have come

from, where we are now and where we are headed. Since becoming Trotter #658 a number of years ago I have wit-

nessed much growth in Trotters both in terms of number of members and in spirit.

One of the biggest changes I have noticed is how our members have embraced new technology such as social me-

dia, enabling us to connect in real time and share experiences, support each other and highlight achievements.

Along with our website, group email and newsletter these tools have been used to effectively enhance communica-

tion between members.

At the same time we continue to respect and hold on to the traditions that have developed over more than thirty

years. Attendance at our annual club events continues to be strong including our Christmas Party, Relay for Life,

Girakool to Patonga, Round the Bay and Trotter of The Year Night.

Obviously I am just one part of a team who ensure the ongoing management and success of Terrigal Trotters and I

acknowledge the Committee for their support and efforts. It has been my pleasure working with this group com-

prising of Jenny Barker (Vice-President), Dave Byrnes (Secretary), Jeff Dick (Treasurer), Judy Murray, Lynn Brom-

wich, Oliver Warschkow, Sharyn Smith and Graham Davis. I believe the Committee is a reflection of the broad cross

-section that is our membership and together we have delivered stability and growth to our club. I also

acknowledge the ongoing support of our Registrar/Public Officer, Kevin Andrews OAM. Kevin has been a reliable

sounding board for me and always available whenever I need advice.

One of the most noticeable differences I have witnessed over the past few years, and in particular the past 12

months, has been the emergence of our female members as driving forces both in respect of running and in the

growth of our club. Trotters Vice-President Jenny Barker, Committee members Judy Murray, Lynn Bromwich,

Sharyn Smith, Results Coordinator and Newsletter Editor Bionda Hiensch, Time Trial Coordinator Detta Unsworth

and 6 @ 6 Coordinator Denise Maguire are to be congratulated for the ongoing selfless work they do for our club.

On the running front our girls are achieving some amazing results and can regularly be found atop the leader

board. Led by Female Athlete of the Year, Melissa Robertson our stocks have never been so high. Melanie McDon-

ald, Denise Maguire and Katy McCaig were the three other finalists for athlete of the year awards and they contin-

ue to set the bar very high for our members both male and female. One of the highlights of the year was a third

place for female teams at 6 Foot Track. I could not finish without mentioning the all-girl Oxfam Trailwalker Team

that is the “Sweaty Sisterhood”. Detta Unsworth, Denise Maguire, Lisa Gidley-King and Jo Litterick are members

that we can be truly proud of. They embrace and practice the core values that I believe are the cornerstone of Ter-

rigal Trotters, acceptance, supporting others and striving for a happier and healthier life.

Lastly I acknowledge and thank all of our members, it is because of your support and friendship that I continue my

ritual of rolling out of bed before dawn breaks every Saturday morning to join with you for one of our many and

varied runs.

TREASURER’S REPORT The 2014/2015 Financial Year was another strong financial year for Terrigal Trotters Inc. The financial position of

the club remains sound, particularly due to the financial contribution to the Club from the GNW 100s event and the

Bay to Bay Running Festival.

Revenue

Total Gross Revenue for the year was $195,978, up by $24,143 versus 2013/2014. The main revenue items contin-

ue to be the Bay to Bay; the GNW 100s and Saturday running fees.

The Bay to Bay event income was up on the previous year, including increased Sponsorship payments but slightly

down on the highs of 2012/13, As a result of slightly higher revenues, donations to Charities and other recipients

(including Terrigal Trotters) increased to $42,900 including a substantial donation of $20,000 to the Blair’s Wish

charity. The main financial contributor to the Club was last year’s (Sept 14) successful GNW 100s event and my

thanks again go to Dave Byrnes and the many volunteers for a very well organised event.

Expenses

Total expenses (Gross of GST) for the Club at $170,273 were lower than the previous financial year, mainly due to

the purchases of equipment and supplies for both the Bay to Bay and GNW 100s being lower this year. We contin-

ue to heavily subsidise participation in Trotter events with the main expenditure areas being:

1. Continuing the Milestone and Trophy awards, recognising the long contribution of Trotters over the

years

2. Increased Insurance costs, including volunteer insurance.

3. The costs of hiring buses to transport runners to the major events (eg City to Surf) and also to the reg-

ular GNW trail runs. Given the relatively small number of runners taking part in the GNW trail run se-

ries the cost of bus hire and amount of subsidy will need to be reviewed for next year’s series.

The cash position of both the Terrigal Trotters General Account and the Bay to Bay Account tends to peak at the

end of June each year as revenue for both Bay to Bay and GNW 100s has been received without corresponding

outflows. The TT General account as at end June showed a balance of $58,584. This Account includes revenue

(entry fees) for this year’s GNW 100s (reflected as ‘Income Received in Advance’ and we will not incur the expenses

for this event until September. The Bay to Bay account as at end June stood at $64,181 with donations and expens-

es of over $60,000 still in the process of payment at that point. We still retain two Term Deposits (TT General and

the Bay to Bay), valued at $17,774.

As the Club is well in excess of the GST threshold, the cash position of Terrigal Trotters is monitored accordingly.

Turnover for the Club as a whole is now in excess of $360,000 per annum and Harwood’s Chartered Accountants,

who conduct our annual financial review, have recommended that the Club engage a part time bookkeeper to as-

sist with preparing returns. While this will be an additional expense, the Club has sufficient funds and volume of

transactions to justify this and I would support this recommendation.

Finally, my thanks to Harwood Chartered Accountants for their assistance, diligence and perseverance in preparing

the Financial Reports.
