THIS year, Jimmy Osmond is celebrating 50 years in show- biz, writes Samantha Fisher, and to mark it is touring with a new live show – A Tribute to Andy Williams – which is com- ing to De Montfort Hall next month. The concert is on October 6, and will be packed with popular songs, nostalgic footage and Jimmy’s own personal memor- ies of Andy Williams, the legendary American crooner. Jimmy says it is an honour to do this tour as a tribute to Andy, as he knew him so well. He said: “I am a little nervous. I am not nervous to perform, I think I am nervous because this show means so much to me. Andy Williams was like family to me. “I was three years old when I started on his show and before he died he asked me to buy his theatre to keep his Christmas shows going. He wanted to be remembered for his music. “It is not about me, it is about his music – he touched a lot of lives with his music.” Jimmy said one of his fa- vourite moments in the show is when he performs Speak Softly Love, as he sings along- side footage of Andy on screen. He said: “That is great fun for me – we sing it together like bud- dies.” Jimmy has been to Leicester on many occasions. “I have been to De Montfort Hall a number of times. I was Billy Flynn in Chicago, and I was there with my brothers a few times.” He’s looking for- ward to getting back. “I think over the years, I have been able to make friends who come back and watch the shows. It is about re- connecting with people,” he says. “This tour is intense, it is a different city almost every day. With all the time I have spent in Leicester, I am looking forward to coming back to make one more memory. “I grew up travelling all over the place – and the UK has a special place in my heart.” Jimmy will perform many of the romantic songs that made the legendary Andy Williams so popular, including Music To Watch Girls By, Happy Heart, Can’t Take My Eyes Off You, Al- most There, May Each Day, Days of Wine and Roses and, of course, the song that was to become his theme, Moon River. The youngest member of the Osmond family will be joined by The Moon River Band, with spe- cial guest stars Charlie Green and Emily Penny and, naturally, a show with an Osmond would not be complete without some of the chart-topping hits that made Jimmy and his brothers famous. WOODY Allen’s latest, Cafe Society, has been de- scribed as “handsome” and not a “honking mis- fire” by the Guardian. You can write your own review, if you like, don’t send it here though, of his period comedy-drama, if you choose to go see it with your Mercury Mondays two-for-one movie tickets deal with Phoenix Cinema. Set in the 1930s glamour of Hollywood, Bronx (Jesse Eisenberg) moves to California to make a name for himself, when he falls in love with Vonnie (Kirsten Stewart). But Vonnie is also having an affair with Phil, Bronx’s uncle, so which man will she choose? From Arthur Ransome’s timeless classic comes the adaptation of Swallows and Amazons. Suitable for all the family, the film charts the Walker children as they embark on their ad- venture, battling against a gang of rebellious children in the Lake District with the aim to claim the island for their own. Matt Ross’s Captain Fant- astic follows the story of Ben (Viggo Mortensen), an unconventional father raising his six children in the forests of the Pacific Northwest. But when the news reaches them Ben’s estranged wife has passed away, he and his children must venture into the realm of modern America, a society his children are wholly unprepared for. Based on a true story, The Infiltrator stars Bryan Cranston (from Breaking Bad), but rather than man- ufacturing the drugs like his hit TV show character, he poses as a slick busi- nessman who helps drug dealers launder their money. Sinking deeper in- to the dangerous trade, Bob risks his life to take down the cartel. CAFFEINE BOOST: Cafe Society. But by the beach...
