KINDY NEWS The kindy children planted some seedlings supplied by Mr Peter Reeves, our amazing grounds person. We planted tomatoes and celery into our ever-growing veggie patches in the early childhood area. We water them every day and check that the crows have not had too much to eat overnight!

Kindy Liturgy – Celebrating Father’s Day The kindy class invited the pre-primary students to attend our liturgy with Father Ben on Wednesday, 9 September

celebrating our fathers. It has become a day not only to honour our fathers, but all men who act as father-figures: stepfathers, uncles, grandfathers, and other significant adult males. We also remember the fathers who have been called to their heavenly home. We honour all these special men in our lives on Father’s Day.

Father Ben in his homily, spoke about Father’s Day as not just about giving presents, but remined us to tell our dads that we love them and to give them a hug. We can do this every day, thanking them for being our father figures!

National Child Protection Week 2020 Last week we celebrated National Child Protection Week. The theme this year was “Putting children first” and emphasised the need for prioritising the safety and well-being of students. To grow up well, children need to feel safe and loved, have opportunities to play and explore, have a say in decisions that affect them, and access to essential items like food, water, shelter and heath care. (Napcan, 2020) Additional to our Keeping Safe Curriculum, staff extended the learning around child safety by having class discussions and participating in an art competition where the brief for each student was to answer the statement; “ I feel safe and happy when …...”. Our students did an amazing job and it was very difficult to pick a winner from each class. Congratulations to the following winners for this year’s art competition.

HEADS UP Thursday, 24 September Week 10 – Great Veggie Crunch

“Crunch! Crunch! Munch! Munch! Farmers are the pick of the bunch”

We now have vegetable gardens in both the kindy and pre-primary area and the central area for the students in year one to five. Kim Manov has organised a Great Veggie Crunch which the students and staff will share together. You do not need to send in the vegetables, these are provided through the Grant Kim successfully applied for in 2019. The children will also be involved in, over the day, caring for the vegetable patches and the compost units. The whole school will participate in the day, on a serious note we are trying to encourage the children to eat fruit and vegetables. Unfortunately, a lot of the lunch boxes contain packet process food. We need to work together, school and homes to ensure the children are not overweight and develop chronic illness. Simone Passera suggested, “We all dress up as farmers or gardeners and make scarecrows for our veggie patches – to keep away the crows. We will also pick and munch and crunch our harvest. Crunch! Crunch!, Munch! Munch! Farmers are the pick of the bunch” Great idea Mrs Passera! Please do not buy costumes -jeans, shorts (free dress) hats/caps will be fine. Please ensure your child/ren wear their school shoes for safety.

Running Club – 8:15 am Wednesdays Every Wednesday at 8:15am, Naomi Clarkson and I will alternate the Wednesday mornings to take the children from years two to five, who want to participate, for a fifteen-minute session on the oval to improve their aerobic fitness and allow them an opportunity to increase their muscle tone. Please note the children do not arrive to school before 8:10am. They know to leave their school bag near the front office and come to the oval for a warmup and then run at their own pace. If they arrive at 8:25am they will need to go to their classroom as this will be too late to participate. Last week we had about twenty-five children turn up! Well done Champs!

Reminders Swimming Enrolment Forms Swimming enrolment forms are due this Wednesday, 16 September. If you have misplaced your form, please contact the office as soon as possible for a replacement. We must have an enrolment form for your child, or they will not be able to participate in the swimming lessons. Thank you!

School Fees Please make every effort to pay some or all your outstanding fees for services rendered. We are almost to the end of term three. The announcement this week from our Executive Director, Dr Debra Sayce was a welcome relief for our parents to hear that Catholic school fees will remain at the current 2020 level.

School Nurse Our school nurse sends through flyers for upcoming parenting and welfare seminars quite frequently, please check our website regularly for these flyers. They are under “Communication” ‘Nurse.’

Term Four School opens for kindy to year five students on Tuesday, 13 October.

Updates for Term Four Next week, in the final Newsletter for this term, we will release some tentative dates for school events for next term. However, you need to be aware that these dates may change as we still have three and a half weeks before Term Four commences and no one can guarantee certainties given COVID -19.

‘May God bless you and keep you safe in the palm of His hand.’
