The Fathering Project utilizes researched evi-dence to develop programs and initiatives to en-courage Fathers to realise how important they are in a child’s life, inspire them to get involved with their children and give them advice and op-portunities on how to do this. Judging by the enthusiasm from our dads last week, we are looking for a great program to be implemented at our school. Each dad has some homework to do before the next contact when we will have put aside some dates for activities to be run each term. Their homework is to tell at least one other dad about the program as soon as they can while it is uppermost in their mind. If each dad does this then there will be at least 60 dads involved.

I am looking forward to this program providing Fathers or Father figures the opportunity to en-gage with the school and their children in fun ac-tivities whilst at same time becoming part of a strong and supportive network with like-minded Fathers, developing their own parenting knowledge, making new friends for themselves and their children and building a stronger com-munity at our school.

2019 SRC SENIOR SPEECHES Congratulations to all our prospective prefects and captains for some wonderful speeches last week. It certainly isn’t easy having to get up in front of the whole school and deliver a speech at any time, but the added pressure of talking about yourself and what you hope to achieve through-out 2019 is even more daunting. They all did ex-tremely well and I loved their little slogans to cap-ture a memory of them for when we went back to class to vote. One thing that really stood out to me was the passion and respect they all have for their school! I congratulate them all for their splendid efforts. Voting was completed on Friday and I hope to announce the new team some time Monday. Reminder that Mulga Road Christmas celebration takes place this Thursday from 6.00—9.00pm. I know these celebrations are a lot of fun and sup-port our local business area.

Every grade across OWPS from K-6 was repre-sented. With the discussions on the night, we have decide to work towards planning 4 events for 2019 (one per term). We will be getting those dates out ASAP so they can go in your diary for 2019 and information about the events will fol-low. The Big Push The Fathering Project are holding a charity bike ride 28th-30th April 2019 from Sydney to Canber-ra. If you are a keen cyclist and would be interest-ed being part of the ride please contact to Miss Benita via the school office/email. Registration for the ride is $500 which covers accommodation, insurance, meals and the riding jersey, and each rider is aiming to raise $2000 each for the Father-ing Project. More information can be found at http://www.thefatheringprojectnsw.org It would be great to have some people representing OWPS on the ride. Miss Benita Wellbeing Officer

MATHEMATICS COMPETITION

Gifted and Talented Mathematics Competition

On Wednesday 7th November, Selina, Alec, Celeste and I went to Bonnyrigg Public School to participate in

the finals of the Lachlan Macquarie College of Mathematics Competition. Eleven other schools were there

from different parts of Sydney. We participated in a range of activities including making a tower of cards to

support twenty books, quick Maths relays and half-day challenges. Overall, it was a fabulous day. We came

in at a commendable fifth place. We didn’t win but I think we did very well. Thank you to Mr Mikhail for tak-

ing us. Thank you to Mrs Assad for organising the event.

A Visit from David Dunn

This term our school was lucky to have an Abo-riginal artist named David Dunn come to teach us how to paint. Everyone from K-6 had a great experience. At the start he told us stories of his childhood and showed us the importance of art in Aboriginal culture. Each child took home an artwork with silhouettes of Aboriginal men and women having fun and traditionally hunting. We thank David for coming to our school to teach us about Aboriginal art and culture. Thanks to Ms Chalkiotis for the photo of David working with KC.

TERM 4 WEEK 7 OATLEY WEST LANTERN - The school by the park 26 November 2018

Oatley West OOSH has been part of the school community for 10+ years. Over the years we have grown from a very small service to a sought after service, facilitating for up to 75 chil-dren over both morning and afternoon sessions. We provide hands on, fun program with an edu-cational purpose, which is planned from obser-vations of the children’s interactions within the Centre. We program to meet the needs and in-terests of the children, as individuals and as so-cial beings. We offer a range and variety of ac-tivities and experiences, structured and unstruc-tured, which aim to stimulate all developmental areas of a child. As the service has grown, we have moved throughout the schools shared facilities, with our most recent facility being achieving a Gov-ernment grant that has allowed the school to enclose the Kindergarten balcony, making an additional shared learning space for Kindergar-ten and OOSH.

Some of the fun things we have been doing at OOSH recently include:

Exploring different forms of science, conducting experiments, hypothe-sising about what will happen and exploring the natural environ-ment.

Recognising National Recycling Week and implementing sustainable practices and reusing recyclables to create crafts.

Keeping physically active and engag-ing in competitive soccer tourna-ments with the ongoing verbal support of our peers.

Come along and join us for a fun filled time! E: [email protected] T: 0488 499 832 Before School Care: 7am to 9:25am After School Care: 3:25pm to 6:15pm
