Principal’s
Message
This year we have had an amazing year in sport.
Trundle Central School is State Central School
Champions in four sports. Lawn Bowls, girls and
boys 14yrs Cricket and 40 Overs Cricket. This is a
significant achievement considering it involves 60
schools most of which are significantly larger in
terms of numbers than us. Indeed, we were only
two runs away from a fifth state championship in
opens cricket. The school also currently holds the
Gondonery Cup and Shield. This is an outstanding
effort from all involved.
Talent alone cannot win these championships.
Quality coaching, positive player attitude and a
school culture/image that encourages students to
achieve are essential for success. Every coach
knows a significant percentage of sporting success
is mental rather than physical. In short if you think
you are going to be beaten you can be sure you
will be, and if you look like a looser you probably
are. However, when our players arrive at a venue
on a clean modern bus, in uniform and exhibiting a quiet but confident attitude they look like winners.
Opposition teams notice and it is worth points on
the field. I would like to acknowledge the
sportsmanship of all our players and the quality
coaching and endless enthusiasm of Mrs Trish
Morgan and other staff. Next year to assist Trish I
have managed to recruit Mr Valdimir. Mr Valdimir
formally coached the Russian weight lifting
program. He also will be helping Mr Lynn with
chemistry, assisting with the breakfast program as
well as sport. I want that fifth championship.
Presentation of the school is also I believe vitally
important. The orchard area is now looking
presentable and more consistent with the image I
want to portray of the school. Recently we
purchased a new lawn mower more suitable for
the front of the school to make it more
presentable. I have been very impressed with the
increased effort all staff but particularly our ground
staff has made to make the school I believe the
best presented Central School in the district. The
Parkes Shire Council have promised we they will
renew the front garden next year so I will look
forward to the car park area reflecting more
positively on the school and town. I am sure the
council will honour their commitment to the new
garden as the school is the first building travellers
see so it is important that the correct impression
of Trundle is given because the entrances to
Trundle may need a little work to say the least.
Uniform is vital in the process of creating and
maintaining school culture, spirit and safety.
Recently the P&C survey identified the school
community is supportive of changing the white
shirt worn by High School girls to the maroon and
yellow shirt. I believe this will make it easier for
families. K/1/2 will now wear a sports uniform for
Friday sport. These changes are phased in over a
three year period but it would be better for
everyone concerned if families could quickly
comply with these changes. All High School girls I
have spoken to are glad to see the end of the
white shirt. White shirts, in a country school I fail
to understand the thought process behind that
decision, unless you have shares in the
manufacturers of bleach.
Education needs to be a partnership between
schools, parents and students. This was not always
the case in the past. These are comments made by
a Trundle Central School teacher on a students work in the past. Bert, after reading your assignment
I am not impressed at all, indeed it is the worst handed
in all year. It appears it is a waste of time for yourself
and for that matter myself in correcting it. To add
insult to injury you have included at considerable effort
to yourself a map of Japan, appropriately marked on
both sides “Trundle School Library” and as this map is
not your property I have returned it to the Library. I will
make one further comment. Bert. If you are not
prepared to make a reasonable effort do not under
any circumstances expect to get a grade in social
studies better than ten next time. Try a little harder, I
would like to think you would do better – as you
probably can - than this miserable excuse for a piece
of form four work. Education has changed and I
would be very surprised if any teacher would write
such a negative comment on a student’s work.
Why would any professional educator believe that
this type of comment would encourage a student
to do better? This student has probably out-lived
and out-earned this teacher so who had the last
laugh?

Student Absences The Education Act of 1990 requires all students to attend school unless an explanation is
provided and accepted by the School.
If your child/ward is absent from school please send in a note or ring the school with an
explanation.
Presentation night is an acknowledgement of
student achievement. It is important that all
student achievement is recognised. This school has
an extremely transparent process for determining
awards where secret ballots are conducted. I have
heard ridiculous talk in the town that the process
is bias towards staff children. If staff children
deserve the award I cannot see any reason why
they cannot be rewarded. It is difficult enough for
staff children to be at the same school as a parent
in a small town where everyone has a theory.
Last week we conducted our ICE information
session. The power outage made some aspects of
the presentation not feasible but I believe students
understood the content of the talk. The most
telling points for me was when the presenters
stated ICE affects whole communities and families. I
am sick of the media referring to drug sellers or
terrorists as masterminds. A person with a
mastermind saves lives not create human mystery.
Last week America had yet another mass shooting.
This year 9800 people in America have been shot
by legal hand guns alone. This is a terrible fact and
there is no doubt that country needs massive
reform in their gun laws. However, I get offside
with some of my more politically correct collegues
when I say a gun in the country is tool of trade. I
grew up with guns as my father needed to reduce
vermin and my children have been around guns since birth. I do not believe anyone of my family
are more likely to kill someone as a person with no
exposure to guns at all. America needs to look
internally to see why they have had 356 mass
shootings this year and I hope our leaders do not
overreact to these incidents.
Another great week in Trundle
John Southon
(BYOD) program As part of the Bring Your Own Device (BYOD)
program Trundle Central School will be starting
next year students from years 9, 10 and 11 will be
required to bring an electronic device to use in
class. The device is not limited to a Windows
laptop, but could be an IPad, MacBook,
Chromebook or Android tablet. A few key
requirements for the device are:
must be able to communicate over
5Ghz Wifi
a dedicated keyboard (iPad and tablets
can have Bluetooth or wired keyboards)
A battery life that will be able to last a
school day (6 hours minimum)
A protective case to prevent damage as there are likely to be knocks in a school
bag
If you have a device that meets these requirements
and you would like to test it on the school
network before the end of the year, please bring it
in so we can see if it is compatible.
If you have a laptop that meets all requirements
other than the 5Ghz Wifi it is possible to buy a
5Ghz Wifi USB dongle for around $50 to allow
the laptop to be used on the school network.
If you don’t have a device that would meet the
requirements and don’t think you will be able to
get an appropriate device for the BYOD program,
there are a number of older laptops that the
school has converted to Chromebooks that are
compatible on the school network that the school
can loan whilst parents are purchasing a device.
If you have any questions regarding the
requirements of the BYOD program, please see
the attached BYOD guidelines handout or contact
the school.

Super 8’s Cricket Under 14’s Girls The Under 14’s girl’s team got off to a slow and steady start in their pool games. But they came out
ready to take catches and hit plenty of runs in the finals. They played Yeoval in the semi-final. Yeoval
batted first and our girls got two wickets in the first over. They continued to field well and as a result
limited Yeoval’s total. Trundle came into bat full of confidence which showed as they hit many
boundaries and went on to win the match. The girls then faced Boorowa in the Final. After winning
the toss the girls decided to field first. Once again they bowled and field well taking many wickets and
keeping Boorowa to a total of 137. The Trundle team then came out to bat which they did with
enthusiasm and determination thus scoring 247 runs and therefore winning the game convincingly.
Congratulations to all the girls who displayed exceptional sportsmanship throughout the day and it is
an excellent achievement to win a state carnival. A special congratulations to Brooke Morgan who was
awarded the MVP for the Under 14’sGirls competition.

Super 8’s Cricket Under 14’s Boys The Under 14 Boys cricket team had a great day at the State Central Schools Finals. Their first game
was against Gulargambone, winning 131 – 106. They then went on to defeat Ungarie 171 – 73 and
Boorowa 172 – 103. In the final match of the day we were up against Coolah who were also
undefeated at that stage. In a close game the boys were victorious, 150 – 103 and were declared well-
deserving state champions. Congratulations also go to Brodi Gavin-Rossiter who was awarded the
MVP for his outstanding batting in the 14 boys competition. The whole team are to be commended
for their team spirit and sportsmanship.

Super 8’s Cricket Opens Team The opens team started the day by playing Gularganbone, we didn’t have the best start losing 13 wickets.
We were better with the ball, but the damage had already been done and we lost narrowly to
Gularganbone. In the second match the boys played Boorowa. Improving to only lose 5 wickets in this
match which made a big difference and we were able to take away the win. The third match saw us facing
up against Molong, who we beat in the 40 overs Cricket two weeks ago. Unfortunately, Molong got the
better of us by a handful of runs.
We then got to play in the semi-final against Gularganbone. We had improved since the start of the day.
We scored one less run than Gularganbone but took 5 more wickets which gave us the win, sending us
through to the final. In the final we were up against Boorowa, who we beat in the pool match. It was a
tight match which came right down to the last ball. Unfortunately, we lost by only 2 runs. The boys
played with great sportsmanship and team work throughout the day and very gracious in defeat.

40 Over Cricket Team Report On Wednesday last week our 40 over cricket team played in the semi final against Balranald Central
School at Dubbo. Trundle lost the toss and were sent in to field. Our stand out bowlers were Albert
Wykes and Bryce Gavin-Rossiter taking 3 wickets each. Trundle bowled Balranald out for 106 runs in
22 overs. Brodi Gavin-Rossiter and Bryce Gavin-Rossiter led the run chase brilliantly with an opening
partnership of 40 runs. Brodi went on to score 53 not out which was an outstanding effort. Trundle
scored the runs in 13 overs which was a great effort. Winning this game meant that we would play
Gulargambone in the final on Thursday.
We arrived on Thursday morning in Dubbo enthusiastic and ready to play hard. We loss the toss and
were sent in to bat. With nerves at a high, our openers reached a partnership of 19 before Bryce
Gavin-Rossiter was bowled out. Wills Wells came in to bat at 4th and made a total of 33. This was a
match winning effort as he held strong partnerships with both Karl Turner and Liam Walsh. Trundle
were bowled out for a total of 106.
After a pep talk from our coach Miss Rowlands we were pumped up to field the best we possibly could
and we knew we had to hold on to catches if we wanted to win the game. Brad Watt opened the
bowling and on his second ball the batter wacked it straight to Bryce Rowley-Howarth and he took the
catch. Gulargambone were patient and but were not scoring many runs which we were happy about.
Our captain Brad Watt, made a bowling change and put Bryce Gavin-Rossiter on to bowl. This young
man has the most unusual technique Miss Rowlands has ever seen, but it seems to work. He bowled
the Gulargambone captain out for 8 runs. We knew this was the wicket we needed, as he was their
best batter. The combination of accurate bowling and brilliant fielding meant we bowled them all out
for 76 runs. This meant that we are now Central School State Champions in 40 over cricket.
We were presented with our medals and Wills Wells was awarded the Most Valuable Player award for
his match winning run total of 33. We received our trophy which is another one for the cabinet and
we were stoked! A big thank you to Miss Rowlands for coaching, umpiring and driving the bus, to Mrs
Morgan for organising all the games from the start of the competition and for staying back at work to
greet us when we arrived home from our win and Mr Lynn for taking us when Miss Rowlands was
unable to. Thanks to our parents and carers for washing our whites (scrubbing and soaking them) so
we could look our best on game days. A huge congratulations to all the players and to Brad Watt for
being an excellent captain. Bring on 2016 so we can win again!

Physical activity is still important when study ramps up at school. This is the
age many kids drop sport, but it's important for them to continue to incorpo-
rate exercise into their schedule to help them manage stress as they prepare
for the HSC.
In Year 11 your child will be expected to work harder and be more proactive in their study. It's a
big step up from Year 10.
At the beginning of the year your child will receive an assessment book or calendar, with the dates
of all assignments and exams for the year. Review this together and put the dates in a highly
visible family calendar (on the fridge perhaps) as well as in your child's study diary or smartphone
calendar. Encourage them to plan a regular and consistent study schedule from the first week of
Term 1.
Year 12 study starts for your child at the beginning of Term 4 this year.
Monitor your child's technology use. Research shows that the quality of study and learning suffers
when kids are frequently interrupted by texts, emails, phone calls or by flicking between homework
and Facebook screens. Instead, tell them to schedule 10 minute breaks every hour to catch up on
their social lives, if need be.
TIPS FOR STARTING IN YEAR 11 Each year in high school brings new academic and personal

JOKE OF THE WEEK
In Tony Robinson's History of
Australia, the always-entertaining
storyteller explores the modern
history of our nation, from colo-
nial beginnings to the Stolen
Generations apology, with trade-
mark gusto. He delights in unfurl-
ing lesser-known tales such as
the First Fleet's Founding Orgy
or how shots fired in Port Phillip
Bay raised the curtains of both
World Wars. But it's people that
most interest Robinson, and
from William Dampier to Anh
Do he profiles a multicultural
cast of characters who have con-
tributed to the remarkable Aus-
tralian story.
In this hilarious chapter book mystery,
meet a girl whose parents have been kid-napped by disreputable foxes, and a pair of
detectives that also happen to be bunnies! When Madeline gets home from school
one afternoon to discover that her par-ents have gone missing, she sets off to find
them. So begins a once-in-a-lifetime adven-ture involving a cast of unforgettable char-
acters. There's Mr. and Mrs. Bunny, who drive a smart car, wear fedoras, and hate
marmots; the Marmot, who loves garlic bread and is a brilliant translator; and
many others.
Oz and Lily's family have inherit-
ed it, together with the mysteri-
ous shop downstairs. Long ago,
its famous chocolate-makers
were clever sorcerers. Now evil
villains are hunting the secret of
their greatest recipe. The terrify-
ing power of this magic chocolate
could destroy the world.
The children are swept into a
thrilling battle, helped by an invis-
ible cat, a talking rat and the
ghost of an elephant.
