Student Contributions – National Literacy & Numeracy Week PNPS celebrated National Literacy and Numeracy Week in September. All classes engaged in exciting learning activities that enabled us to demonstrate our talents across all areas of Literacy and Numeracy. Here are some examples of the amazing work including from subtraction, position, making numbers as well as writing and sharing haikus and 6 word poems. KR played a game called 2-Max. This was a game played in pairs using a group of counters and a dice. Students took turns rolling the dice and then removing the number of counters from the group until there were no counters left. The student who took the last counter won the game. The students enjoyed this game and the discussion around reasoning and problem solving when the number of counters in the group was low. KC completed the numeracy activity Let Me Out of Here. This activity aligned perfectly with our topic for the week: Position. Students worked in pairs, one giving directions and the other following directions and moving around the room. The students challenge was to navigate around obstacles to get to the exit using only directional language. Students who were really ready for a challenge had a blindfold on and had to use their listening skills and knowledge of directional language to get to the exit. In 6/5Y we played Catch 40 for our National Literacy and Numeracy Week activity. Three people (Noura, Rayan and Dev) won 10 rounds!! Enrico was the champion of the class, winning a total of 16 rounds! Rayan was the only person who won against Enrico. Roaring waves. Screeching wind. Very suspicious. Shania Volcano erupting. Lava spewing. Danger strikes. Krystal Crashing waves. Dark ocean. I'm terrified! Hannah Whistle blows! Germany passes, Shoot! Goal! Ian Haunted house, ghosts howling, running scared. Zach Lava erupting, red rivers, burning houses. Ishaan L
