NIAGARA PARK PUBLIC SCHOOL Learning For Life

SAS Staff Recognition Week This week we recognised the great job our SAS Staff do in our school. Our SAS Staff assist teachers, implement individual programs, maintain our grounds, coordinate our administration, support our Library and do great things for our kids. Without our SAS Staff our school would not be the smooth running organisation that it is. Thank you Mrs Shepherd, Mr Curry, Mrs Roods, Mrs Loschi, Mrs Bannerman, Mrs Coote, Mrs Weary, Mrs Stevenson, Mrs Boesen, Mrs Gibson, Mrs Hasan, Mrs Gavenlock, Mr Pugh, Mrs Shackelton, Mrs Tragaris, Mrs McLeod, Mrs Ajala, Mrs Boland, Mrs Broadhead and Mrs Fraser.

We appreciate all that you do for our school. Thank you to our executive and P&C for providing the morning tea and thank you to Mrs Napper and Mrs Emmerson for you help setting up the morning tea. Book Fair and Book Character Parade Niagara Park Public School will be having its Annual Book Fair in Week 9, Term 3 from 16 to 20 September in the Library, which is looking amazing. Students and their families are invited to purchase books with the profits being returned to the Library to purchase new resources. Parents and friends are invited to our Book Character parade on Wednesday 18 September at 9:30am under the bottom COLA. Students are asked to wear a 'book character' costume to school for the day. This year our theme is 'Reading is our Superpower', however, students do not have to come as a superhero. ANY book character is fine. There are no prizes given at this event; it's purely for fun and to promote the value and fun of reading. If you're stuck for ideas, you can find some ideas for book character costumes on our Library's Pinterest board here: https://pin.it/gdrckr2iafosdd

We can't wait to see everyone in their costumes on the day!

Have a great weekend and Happy Father’s Day. Adam Boulus Principal

Seasons for Growth Parent Program When major change or loss occurs in families, parents’ concerns are often framed around important questions such as:

• How do I talk with my child about what’s happened? • What kind of reaction might I expect from my child? • What can I do to support my child? • Does it matter if my child sees me upset? How will I know what my child wants or needs?

The Seasons for Growth Parent Program has been developed to help answer some of these questions. It provides an opportunity for parents to better understand the experience of death, separation and divorce

from a child's perspective. The program draws on evidence about what children experience and need to help them transition well through family change.

Facilitated by a trained Seasons for Growth Companion, the distinctive child-centered approach provides emotional space and a non-judgmental environment for parents to share, discuss and learn ideas and strategies to support their children.

The Seasons for Growth Parent Program has two separate components:

Supporting your child following separation and divorce (1 x 4 hour or 2 x 2 hour sessions) Supporting your child following the death of someone they love (1 x 2 hour session)

Parents will have the opportunity to learn about: Children’s reactions – ages, stages and other important considerations regarding ways your children may react and cope.

The Seasons for Growth approach to understanding and managing change, loss and grief. How you can help your child – identifying what you can do or change and acknowledging what you can’t. Communicating with your child – building a warm relationship, talking, listening and finding out from your child what s/he needs. Caring for yourself – what you might need in order to provide positive parenting during these difficult times.

If you would like more information and are interested in either course please email our Chaplain Kerry Hennessy at: [email protected] Kerry Hennessy Seasons For Growth Coordinator
