Important Information for Parents and Carers
At no time is it appropriate or permitted for a parent to approach a student in the playground who is not
their own child. When things go wrong and there is conflict between students or an issue that happens on
a weekend or at school, parents, carers and grandparents are to speak to teachers or a member of the ex-
ecutive who will manage the situation, hear student voice and work with students and their families. All
students are to feel safe and respected when they are on school grounds. Please respect the expectations
all schools have in the interest of the safety and wellbeing of all students.

Athletics Carnival
Huge thanks to all involved in our school Athletics Carnivals on Tuesday. We were fortunate with amazing
weather and an incredible day of athletics. It was lovely to see many parents and family members attend
and help create a really nice community feel that most schools are unable to match. Huge thanks to Mrs As-
manas and Mrs McGirr for organising the great day and all the work behind the scenes. Congratulations to
all the students who participated in races and supporting other students. Your effort and sportsmanship to
your fellow competitors was outstanding.
Head Lice
On and off there are outbreaks of Head Lice at schools. Head Lice are very common so there is no need to be
alarmed. However they should be treated quickly to prevent them from spreading. We are asking that all
parents examine their child’s hair and look for the following signs:
Persistent scratching, particularly behind the ears and the nape of the neck accompanied by a red rash
Tiny silver white eggs at the base of the hair shaft
Small pale brown lice. You may wish to use a magnifying glass and a fine tooth comb under a strong
light to help identify lice
If head lice are found please treat your child’s hair and remove the dead lice and eggs using a fine tooth
comb, before sending your child back to school.
As a precaution, any items which may harbour lice, such as bed linen, towels and combs should be washed
in hot soapy water. To help prevent head lice in the future, ask your child to avoid sharing items such as
brushes or hat from friends. Further advice can be obtained from your local pharmacist. Find out more:

VAPING what parents need to be aware of
E-cigarettes and vaping are quickly gaining in popularity, especially amongst teenagers. Manufacturers of
these products are deploying sophisticated marketing campaigns in an attempt to glamorise and promote
smoking to young people. Vaping is the act of inhaling and exhaling the vapour produced by the heated nic-
otine liquid of an e-cigarette or vape pen. Many teens believe that vaping is less harmful than smoking as it
is often formulated with flavourings to appeal to younger users. Be aware that e-cigarettes stating 0 mg of
nicotine, may still contain nicotine. It is a highly addictive substance that can slow the brain development in
kids affecting their memory, concentration, learning and mood. Because vaping is new, the short and long-
term health effects remain unknown. However, studies have shown that kids who have tried vaping, are
more likely to smoke tobacco products later in life than kids who have not tried vaping. As e-cigarettes leave
little odour, they are particularly easy to conceal and use discreetly in public places, even in schools. The
Special Report containing facts relating to e-cigarettes and potential dangers can be accessed at
https://wiki.cancer.org.au/policy/Position_statement_-_Electronic_cigarettes

Our school is a ‘nut aware’ school
A reminder to all parents and carers that we are a ‘nut aware’ school and need to be aware of the number
of children your child goes to school with that has high level allergies. Many of these allergies being life
threatening. We seek your support in being mindful when packing lunches to choose carefully. Many of our
students are allergic to nuts, tree nuts, mangoes, egg and kiwi fruit.
If at all possible please encourage your child to eat these products at home. I am mindful too that some
students have a limited range of foods in their diet and this can at times cause concern. At school we have
strategies in place to keep all students safe.
School carpark dangers
After school on Thursday last week, several Kindergarten children were seen by a teacher running around
the parked cars in the school car park. They were playing a chasing game unsupervised while their parents
were sitting at the infants’ playground. It is unfortunate that we need to report how dangerous this is. Chil-
dren and carparks don’t mix. When you are with your children in the school grounds before and after
school hours, please make sure they are supervised at all times. We want all our children to arrive home
safely at the end of each day.

Fun in the Sun on the Run
Well done to all of the Wideview students at the athletics carnival. The sun was shining and there wasn’t a
breath of wind. The kids looked absolutely amazing for the aerobics routine, and congratulations to King
for their win!
There were many exciting races and the kids truly gave their all. Thanks so much to the parents that helped
to judge the races and to those that helped set up and pack up.
The children will be informed shortly as to whether they have made it to the Zone Carnival.
See you next year!

P&C Update
Reminder that next P&C meeting will be 26 August, 7pm in the staff room. All welcome.
Uniform Shop Co-ordinator Role
We wish to advise that Kate has resigned from her role as Uniform Shop Coordinator, whilst we are sad
she is leaving us, we’re excited for her other opportunities. Thank you to Kate for the hard work she has
put in over the past 2.5 years.
We are looking to recruit someone to replace Kate, working in and running the Uniform Shop. It is a paid
role, reporting to the Uniform Shop Subcommittee which is part of the P&C. It’s approximately 5 hours per
week depending on workload, exact days and times negotiable for the successful candidate. We’re looking
for someone with excellent customer service skills, the ability to coordinate and set up processes to have
the uniform shop running smoothly. Duties include; serving shop customers, compiling and filling Munch
Monitor orders, banking cash sales, ordering from suppliers, sourcing samples, maintaining stock levels
and doing stock takes, managing the P&L, managing the Facebook page, coordinating uniform sales for
Kinderlinks, volunteer coordination and other tasks. There is some requirement to attend meetings in the
evenings on an ad hoc basis. Someone who is able to keep a level head whilst managing competing priori-
ties would be an asset. We’re looking to have someone in the role by the end of term 3 at the latest.
If this sounds like something you may be interested in, please email your CV and any other relevant infor-
mation to: [email protected]

P&C AGM
Every year in October the P&C hold its Annual General Meeting. This is where all positions are opened, and
people are elected into the roles. Over the coming weeks and in the lead up to the October meeting I will
start highlighting some roles we will need filling. The P&C cannot run without our volunteers. Without peo-
ple in these roles we cannot run the P&C, Uniform Shop, Canteen or WOOSHC. These roles are integral to
the services provided to our families. Please consider volunteering your time. If anyone would like to dis-
cuss any of the roles please contact me ([email protected]) or speak to Alison Glendin-
ing, Filip Cloetens or Edwin Tomlins (current P&C Exec team)
P&C Treasurer
The role of the Treasurer is to oversee all the financials for the P&C. Each subcommittee has its own Treas-
urer, but the P&C Treasurer oversees them. The role involves approving payments via our banking system,
financial reporting for P&C meetings and MYOB. Ideally someone with an accounting or some sort of fi-
nance background would be beneficial but not essential. This role will be available come the October AGM.
