Term 2: Year 8 ELP – Contrasting lives

Revised for September 2011

What do I need to complete?

As an estate agent to the stars, you have been asked to find the ideal homes for your famous clients. Using

the information you are given about the celebrities, you need to find a location to meet their requirements,

from those currently available.

Use an Ordnance Survey map of the local area, or the map provided, together with all your mapping skills to

find that perfect location!! Then write up your decisions as follows (but use the level descriptors to help you

know how much detail to put into your answers).

Layout of the ELP

Introduction:

Outline the task that you have to complete and what you hope to achieve from doing this piece of work.

Where are the available houses?

• Find each location on the map and make some notes about what is there and what the area is like (think

about human and physical features). You will need to do some more research about each place. It may help

to try and visit the area and maybe take a few photos to refer to.

Which one is best for each client? (you can select the same location more than once)

Consider all the options, then for each client answer:

• Which is the best location? WHY?

• Is there a different area on the map that is not currently available, but is even better than the one you have

selected? How is it better?

Who else might like to live in the area(s) you have not selected?

• The locations you have not selected are still available- what sort of person/people would be best suited to

each location? WHY?

What role can each celebrity take in the community in which they live in? (Ci)

Describe what each person could do in their community that would make a positive difference. Explain WHY the

actions that you suggest would make a difference.

Client list:

ANDY MURRAY

Andy needs to train regularly so needs a home close to a Leisure Centre or

gym. In his spare time though, he enjoys fishing in the river and visiting his

friends in Corsham.

THE BECKHAMS

Victoria and David want to escape the photographer’s lenses and are looking for

a home in a quiet spot. David wants to be able to travel to a football ground

easily for training and Victoria wants easy access to a main town or city for all

those shopping trips! They both want to be near to a park or quiet country paths

so that they can relax with their children.

JAMIE OLIVER

Jamie wants to be near, or have easy access to the centre of Bath to be able to

pick up fresh food from the market. He would like to be somewhere near to a pub

so he can socialise with his friends, and have a park or other suitable area for the

kids nearby. However, he is keeping a house in London, this one doesn’t have to be

big

MADONNA

Madonna is looking for a complete change from her huge, glitzy place in

L.A. so would love a small, cosy cottage for her family-life.

Although she wants to escape the noise of life in America, she does still need to

be able to get to London quickly for meetings, magazine shoots and interviews. It

would also be useful to be near a hotel or Motel so her friends have somewhere to

stay when they visit
