Welcome back! We hope that everyone had a fabulous break – albeit a little different to what we are used to with the COVID-19 restrictions in place. We look forward to some relaxing of restrictions from today. Please still maintain social distancing and good hygiene practices. Staff News This term we welcome three new staff members. Miss Anne Worthington is joining us as a permanent member of our teaching staff. Miss Worthington will be teaching 1G. Miss Courtney Barrett is replacing Ms Loader who is on leave for the remainder of this year. She will be teaching SL. Ms Amanda Lieber is joining is as a School Learning Support Officer in the Support Unit. We know that the whole school community will make them feel very welcome. Congratulations to Ms Loader who has given birth to a beautiful baby girl, Tahli. Both mum and bub are doing well. Term 2 Schooling Currently we are operating under Phase 0 of the A Managed Return School plan. This means that in Week 2 (next week): Schools are open for families who need it. Families are encouraged to keep their children at home wherever possible, with no student to be turned away. Students who attend school are supervised only, not in their regular classes. No excursions or inter-school activities. Continued enhanced cleaning and hygiene supply arrangements. You must continue to: Keep your child/children at home if possible. Support your child/children to continue learning at home. Communicate with your school via email and phone wherever possible. Follow health advice and keep your child/children at home if they are unwell. Additionally, to assist with social distancing, from Monday we are asking that parents drop off students at the front gate. Unfortunately this week we have had parents congregating in the school playground and not staying the requested 1.5m apart. Whilst we know it is tricky and everyone is finding it challenging to minimise social interactions, it is important that we make the environment as safe as possible for everyone. A member of the Executive staff will be on duty at the gate each morning. We ask that you farewell your child at the gate - give your child a hug and a kiss and wish them a great day of learning. Staff are on duty in the playground from 8:30am each morning should your child need anything before lessons start. In the afternoons we ask that you collect your child promptly and move off site quickly. We also ask that you do not congregate in the street outside the school. The footpath is narrow and everyone is trying to maintain social distancing. Thank you for your understanding and support. Phase 1 Plan From Monday 11 May 2020 we will move into Phase 1 of the A Managed Return School plan. This will see students at school for at least one day per week. We are currently in the process of developing our school’s plan to enable this to occur. Thank you for your patience so far. We are hoping to have the plan published early next week.

A copy of the DoE’s overall plan can be found at https://education.nsw.gov.au/content/dam/main-education/inside-the-department/covid-19/term-2-2020/documents/Managed-return-to-school-for-families.pdf Videos By now all students should have seen the welcome back short video made by their teachers. Stage 1 teachers used Google animals in their video and issued the challenge to students to create their own animal picture. Check these out:

Works Lots of works have been taking place in and around the school.

Back Fence and Driveway Access – The fence at the rear of the school is near completion. A meeting was held with Council today in regards to concreting works external to the school in

that area required for safe access. We are hoping that these will be completed shortly.

Front Wall – A new retaining wall is being built at the front of the school.

Hall Works – The ‘blue’ doors have been painted grey to match the rest of the school. The curtain design for the stage is being finalised and should be installed shortly after that. A new honour board has been installed (Year 6 Gift).

NBN Installation – The school’s NBN connection is due to be installed next Wednesday.

Learner Qualities – Sneak Peak Can you work out which of our learner qualities this graphic might represent? HINT: It starts with ‘C’. Students, email Miss Sayers’ your answer! Stage Newsletters Stage Newsletters will be published next week. The newsletters provide an overview of teaching and learning programs for the term. Keep an eye out for your child’s newsletter. Showcase At The Juniors Sadly due to COVID-19 social distancing requirements and the closing of Clubs, we have been advised that Showcase has been cancelled for this year.

News from the Library Book Club Orders We’re really excited to have BOOK CLUB

running this term, but it will look a little different! It will be a virtual catalogue rather than the printed catalogues you’re used to receiving. To order from this issue go to: Scholastic.com.au/Book-Club/virtual-catalogue-1/ Place your order on LOOP as normal. Orders need to be in by Monday 18 May 2020. Your order will be delivered to our school as usual. Once your order arrives, it will be distributed to the Stage hubs. If you would like your order to be home delivered, please wait until after 18 May 2020 to place your order online. You will be presented with a Scholastic home delivery option for an additional fee of $5.99.

They are learning the important information literacy skill that readers bring together ideas and organise ideas as they read. Stage 2 students represented the main ideas of the book visually and used brainstorms to write cinquain

poems. I have been blown away by their work. I am so proud to share Roger’s poem. Nop Lonely No one wants him He has a great idea Different approach and mindset New friend by Roger (4/5MN)
