Term 2 is here!
Casino West families on ANZAC Day 2020. Lest We Forget.
Dear parents, carers and community members, Welcome to Term 2 during these very different times. We hope you have all have been able to relax with family over the school break.
Lessons will begin again tomorrow; online lessons will be posted on Classdojo by all teachers with year 3-6 teachers also posting work on google classroom (students know how to access this).
Paper learning packs were posted home to each child yesterday and should arrive this week. As of tomorrow we will have a tub for each class at the school office entrance for the return of paperwork to be marked and commented on by teachers. Please attach your child’s work together or put it in a large envelope and place in the appropriate class tub. Thank you.
MANAGED RETURN TO SCHOOL FOR TERM 2:
As you may have heard there will be a managed return to school for Term 2.
There are five phases to get us back to full onsite school operations:
• Phase 0 – where we currently are; schools are open for families of essential workers.
• Phase 1 – students at school one day per week.
• Phase 2 – students at school at least two days per week.
• Phase 3 – students at school five days per week, with social distancing measures.
• Phase 4 – students at school five days per week, with full school activities.
Students will commence Phase 1 (one day a week schooling) from Monday 11 May (Week 3).
Casino West Public School has timetabled all of our students to ensure that only 25% of students attend on any one day, as per health and social distancing guidelines.
Kindergarten to Year 2 students are timetabled to attend on either a Monday or a Tuesday.
Year 3 to 6 students are timetabled to attend on either a Wednesday or a Thursday.
YOU WILL RECEIVE A LETTER IN THE MAIL THIS WEEK OR THE BEGINNING OF NEXT WEEK TO SAY WHICH DAY IS ALLOCATED FOR YOUR CHILD.
We will update the change to each phase of the return as we are notified.
ENTERING SCHOOL PROCEDURES:
Please only enter through the school office area and observe signs.
This week and next week only students of essential workers will be attending school. Parents are encouraged to keep their children at home and continue online/paper learning.
When your child returns: Parents are reminded that school gates open at 9am and students cannot be dropped before this time. You are asked to drop students at school (not enter the school) and arrange a pick up point outside of the school gates on the day your child attends. Parents are required to follow our social distancing and hygiene guidelines and to only contact the school by email or phone.
Any student, staff member or adult with symptoms of illness will not be able to be on school grounds.
Stay safe and have a good week.
Lesley Mills
Principal.

Talking to children about coronavirus (COVID-19) Children are hearing a lot about Coronavirus from the media, their family and their friends. Feelings like worry and confusion are to be expected right now.
As a parent/carer you are the key person your child looks to for accurate information and reassurance.
Listen • Listen to your child’s questions, concerns and give them accurate information.
• Younger children need reassurance more than facts. They need to know that the adults are looking after them even when things are difficult.
• Use a calm, reassuring tone so they understand that the adults are coping with the situation.
Suggestions for speaking with younger children “Some people are getting sick with a virus. It makes them cough and feel unwell. If this happens people are being looked after by doctors and hospitals.” and “It’s important we wash our hands and cough into our elbows”.
Suggestions for speaking with older children Listen to what they have heard and give them accurate information. Give more detail about how the virus is spread and help them see how they can be part of the solution “That’s why we wash our hands for 20 seconds, cough into our elbow and practice social distancing. That’s how we can help protect everyone.”
Balance • Try to retain normal routines as much as possible and focus on other things –
besides the coronavirus.

Your normal routine
If you don’t understand something, ask your teacher or classmates online.
Talking to your teachers and in class is different from how you speak to your friends online. Use proper grammar and avoid excessive emojis.
Take breaks away from screen. Move around and try not to sit all day.
Work in a quiet area, at a desk or table and try to limit distractions.
During calls with your teacher, stay focused on the call. Avoid reading chats or looking at other tabs.
Eat breakfast, brush your teeth and get dressed in the morning.
Please continue to visitthe school website, facebook page and Skoolbag app for up to date information.
