If you want your child to go on a bus aſter school (for example to a friends house), could you please either telephone the school or write a note saying what the arrangement is, where you want your child to get off the bus, and who will be there to collect them from the bus stop. We pass this informaon onto the bus drivers so that we know your children are being kept safe. Children who travel on a bus that is not their regular home-to- school bus are also required to pay for the trip. For safetys sake, children are not permied to make informal arrangements with one another during the day as to where they go at the end of the day. 125 YEARS LAUNCH - WHAT A GREAT WAY TO START! We had a wonderful day today, launching our 125 Year Anniversary Celebraon! So many people turned up in great costumes represenng all the decades from 1900 to 1990 and even to the present day. We enjoyed seeing them all at the costume parade in the morning (well done to those parents who got into the spirit of things with their costumes!) We had really great discos at the Uki Hall, thanks to our guest DJ, Ilan, and loved dancing to all the popular tunes from years past. Students will connue to learn more about the history of Uki and the school over the next few months, and prepare work to be displayed at the official celebraon which will take place here at school on June 6 & 7. All the details of the weekend will soon be posted on our school website - spread the word! See inside for more photographs. HATS ARE AN IMPORTANT PART OF OUR UNIFORM Could you please ensure that your child has a school hat every day as part of their uniform. Because hats are taken on and off regularly, it is very important that your childs name is wrien in permanent marker on the inside of the hat. Students without hats are asked to play in the shade; the Department of Educaon and school P&C have endorsed the wearing of hats as an important measure against skin cancer, and we appreciate your support in keeping your children healthy and safe. ANOTHER SUCCESSFUL SWIMMING CARNIVAL! We had a great day at the pool in Murwillumbah last Wednesday at our annual Swimming Carnival. Thanks so much to all the parents and carers who came along, especially to those who helped with a job. Well done to all the children who had a go at a race - it was great seeing so many compeve swimmers. Mrs Kendrick gave the Giant Slide 11/10 for awesomeness…..it certainly looked like everyone was having fun!! More photos inside. The 1960s were well represented at the Decade Parade!

CAREFUL BOOK WORK - AN IMPORTANT PART OF LEARNING Here are Cooper F and Maverick proudly displaying some careful bookwork. Tidy work in exercise books is important, as it helps students value their efforts and enables them to keep their thoughts in order more easily.

Family Fun Fair Uki Public Schools Family Fun Fair will be held on Friday the 20th of March from 3 – 7pm. This event is a great way for families and the community to get together and is also the P&C’s biggest fundraising event for the year.

The Fun Fair is organised by parent volunteers and without them this event wouldn’t be possible, so I am asking that people consider ways in which they might be able to help.

There are lots of different ways people can volunteer. You can come and help with the set up, the pack up or put your name down to help on one of the many different stalls that we have. We will also be asking for donations on the day of sweets and cakes for our dessert stall.

Please take a moment to have a look at the roster to see if there’s a way in which you might be able to help.

We also understand that not everyone is able to help out so if that’s the case just come along and join in on the fun!

Sponsorship Opportunity

Uki PS 125 Years Celebrations Our school will celebrate 125 Years of operation on 6 -7 June 2020. Today was the official launch for this occasion.

An invitation, program and memorabilia ordering form has been sent home with all students with this newsletter. Events such as these provide a great opportunity for the community to celebrate the history and achievements of our beautiful school and share many special memories.

The planning committee for the event, a sub-committee of the P&C, is offering local businesses and individuals the opportunity to sponsor the celebrations. Platinum, gold, silver and general sponsorship packages are available and provide different levels of advertising opportunities.

Please see the school office for a copy of the sponsorship packages if you or any businesses you may know may be interested in supporting our school. Any support that you could provide would be greatly appreciated. For further information, please contact Selina Stillman on 0423 313370.

P&C NEWS

Why Smiling Mind?

Smiling Mind reminds us that keeping children happy and healthy relies on taking care of their physical health and also their mental health. Mental health supports the way children feel about themselves, how they think, learn and relate to others. Research shows children with good menal health are happier, more confident, resilient and able to form better relationships. They are also set up for positive mental health in the future.

Mindfulness is a state of being aware and undistracted in the present moment. It trains us to focus attention on the here and now, rather than ruminating on the past or worry-ing about the future. Regular mindfulness practise is like training for the brain to support positive mental health. Maybe take the time to download the app. and have a look at the options for children, families and adults. Everyone can benefit from putting a smile on their mind!
