Please return the blue forms to the school office with or without changes as soon as possible.

Annual Swimming Carnival Our annual swimming carnival was held yesterday. Unfortunately, due to the weather, we could not take all the students to the carnival, only students swimming in the 50 metre races attended. Congratulations to all the students who showed great sportsmanship and outstanding behaviour. Our whole-hearted thanks go to all the parents who helped with the running of the carnival, your support was invaluable.

High School Expression of Interest Forms – Yr 7 2021

An information guide and expression of interest form will be sent home with your child on Wednesday 11 March. Your child’s designated local high school, based on your address, is written on the form. If your address has changed, please contact the school immediately. Forms are to be returned to school as soon as possible, no later than Friday 20 March.

Please note the Selective High School placement process is conducted separately to this ‘expression of interest’ form. If you have applied for placement at a Selective High School, the ‘expression of interest’ form still needs to be filled out with your alternative preferences to selective schools (eg local high school).

If your child will be attending a non-state school, please state this on your form and return it to the office.

Burnside Reading Club Starts on Monday 10/2 Mrs Millingham and Mrs Ore are introducing a ‘Burnside Reading Club’ for years 1-3. It will be held between 8.30am and 8.55am every morning in the library. It will be an opportunity for students to read with an adult or a year 6 student each morning. This will be invaluable for students to improve their reading in conjunction with the books that they now enjoy reading at home.

We are now looking for some parent, grandparent volunteers to read with the students. We would love volunteers for each morning, but if you can only do one day that would be great. Please contact the office with your availability for this exciting opportunity for our students.

Ethics and Special Religious Education (Scripture) Classes

Special Religious Education and Ethics Classes will commence Wednesday, 26 February. Please contact the office if you require any information regarding these classes. Forms are required to be completed if you wish to change classes. Ethics – Stage 1 classes At this stage Ethics for Stage 1 students (Years 1 and 2) will commence on Wednesday, 26 February. Please see the information regarding becoming an Ethics Teacher.

Road Safety Information (Dept. Education)

YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR CHILDREN’S SAFETY WHEN THEY ARE TRAVELLING TO AND FROM SCHOOL.

Walk safely

Always hold your children’s hands – when walking on the footpath and when crossing the road – until they are at least 8 years old.

When your children are between 8 and 10 years old, supervise them very closely when they are near traffic and crossing the road.

When you decide to let your children over 10 years old walk to and from school by themselves, plan the journey together. Practise being a safe pedestrian by:

• keeping to the left of the footpath

• being aware of vehicles coming in and out of driveways

• not being distracted by mobile devices or by other people

• using a safe, alternative way home in wet weather

• showing respect to other pedestrians.

STOP! one step back from the kerb.

LOOK! continuously look both ways.

LISTEN! for the sounds of approaching traffic.

THINK! is it safe to cross?

Encourage your children:

• to always use a safe place to cross the road such as a pedestrian crossing, traffic lights or a school crossing, if available

• to check for turning vehicles before they cross the road and driveways

• never to assume that a driver can see them or will stop for them

• to make eye contact with a driver so they know the driver has seen them

• to wait till the driver has completely stopped their vehicle before they cross the road or driveway.

Thank you to all families who park correctly and use the pedestrian crossing correctly. Student safety is our priority on Masons Drive, your good example and patience will support the efforts of all parents and staff in teaching our students how to be safe around busy roads.
