The Interschool Carnival will be hosted on Thursday 1st April at the Beaumaris Primary School Oval. The Interschool Jumps and Throws will be held on Monday 29th March. This will be the first carnival with our new Beachside Sporting Association,

which includes Beaumaris Primary School, Joondalup Primary School and Connolly Primary School, and I’m sure it will be a terrific carnival. Children participating in the event will have separate letters to bring home to their parents.

Positive Partnerships Meetings This week, we have been hosting Positive Partnerships meetings with families who have a child with a diagnosis of autism. The meetings provide the opportunity for the parent, class teacher and one of our Autism Support Teachers to meet and consider the needs of each child and the best strategies to support them to learn and grow.

Joondalup Hospital Telethon Children’s Ward Fundraiser Our Free Dress Day for the Children’s Ward at Joondalup raised $821.50, which was a terrific effort. The students managing this project have two further fundraisers to host this year. We will provide the funds to the Children’s Ward close to the end of the school year when the last event is completed.

P & C AGM Thank you to several members of the school community for volunteering to take on the vacant positions for our P & C Executive. We have now met the officer bearer requirement for our Association. The 2021 office bearers are; President: Claire Ihlein Vice President: Sabrina Pimenta Treasurer: Mike Bush Secretary: Rebecca Jeremiah Fundraising: Nadine Havel Executive: Peta Drew, Krystalie Walther, Marianne Powell

Congratulations and welcome, I look forward to working with you.

We’ll miss you, Mrs Spencer!

Our school staff will gather on Monday afternoon to acknowledge Mrs Deidre Spencer’s contributions to our school, and to public education, as she leaves for retirement.

Mrs Spencer was a foundation member of Currambine Primary and has been an integral part of our school community. She has taught in the public education system for over 38 years. At Currambine Primary she has been a much-valued senior primary teacher working with Year Five, Six and Seven students. She has lead camps, been central to graduation ceremonies, organised and managed the development of Year Books for graduating classes. She has also involved herself in the many extracurricular activities that the senior children so enjoy and that create memories of primary school that last a lifetime. Her Monday seat-swap was well known to students and at each new table, children found small laminated cards with an inspiration quote just for them. We will celebrate her wonderful service (but not too much, as Mrs Spencer doesn’t like a fuss), however, such long, loyal and quality service to our school deserves recognition.

I am sure all members of our school community wish Mrs Spencer a happy and busy retirement.

Book Club Update Please note that there have been a few issues with scheduling regarding the incoming book orders and unfortunately orders will not be delivered until start of next term.

Containers for Change Currambine Primary School has joined the Containers for Change Scheme, which will see a 10 cent refund for every eligible container you return. Funds raised will go to Mohasaing Primary School through the Angkor Project.

How can your family get involved?1) You can drop your containers off at a Refund Point. Currambine Primary School’s Scheme ID for Containers for Change is C102829332) Beginning in Term Two, there will be four bins around the school for students and staff to place their containers into. All canteen drink containers can be placed in these bins. The bins will be located outside the staffroom, in the pre-primary eating area, in the Year 5 and 6 eating area and outside the canteen.

Please note that Mrs Markostamos is still collecting bread tags and unfortunately we are no longer collecting batteries. More info about the Containers for Change Program can be found here: https://www.containersforchange.com.au/wa/how-it-works.

Disco Our P & C Committee are hosting the first Disco of the year tomorrow night, Friday 26th March, however additional volunteers are required, particularly for the senior disco. Without more helpers, the discos cannot go ahead; please see page seven for more information.

Crown Performance Auditions Congratulations to all Year Five students who auditioned for the Crown performance on Tuesday. All students who auditioned are now in our Crown production. This is a privilege and requires a serious commitment from each student during rehearsals. Any disruptive behaviour will not be accepted.

Rehearsals commence in the first week of Term Two and will continue through to our performance on Thursday August 12th (Week Four, Term Three). Further information about costuming, transport, stage and dress rehearsals etc will be provided in Term Two. Should you have any questions please see Mr Van or Mrs Barrett (Tues / Weds).

2022 Enrolments Now Open In Western Australia, children can start their education in Kindergarten, however, compulsory schooling starts the following year in Pre-primary.

Who needs to enrol? You need to apply to enrol your children in school for 2022 if they are: • starting Kindergarten – Four years old by 30 June 2022 • starting Pre-primary*, the first year of compulsory school – Five years old by 30 June 2022. • changing schools.

*Note: If your child is currently attending Currambine Primary School this year, you do not need to enrol them again, they will automatically have a place allocated

Enrolments for 2022 are now open. If you know someone in the community that is looking for a school for their child, please provide them with the link to our prospectus: https://www.currambineps.wa.edu.au/wp-content/uploads/2020/09/Currambine-Primary-School-Prospectus-2020.pdf

Students do not need to reside within the school’s intake boundary, in fact, over fifty percent of our parents have come from beyond our school boundaries drawn by our reputation for academic challenge, high standards of student behaviour, a caring and supportive community and a staff always willing to ‘go the extra mile’ for the students in our care.

Applications are due by Friday 23rd July 2021.

Geoff Smith Principal

Our school has been asked to participate in the Cyber Friendly Primary Schools Project by the Telethon Kids Institute. Cyber Friendly Primary Schools is a three-year project which will develop and evaluate a website, which has been designed to support parents and school staff to improve children’s social and emotional learning skills in an online environment. The project will also be providing the school with resources to promote these skills in the school community. Last week, parents of students in years four, five and six will have received the first Connect notice about this and there will be more information sent during the next few months. Parents of students in years four, five and six will have access to the website and information aimed at supporting you to help your children to use digital technology safely and positively, and then complete surveys to help ensure the resources are relevant and useful. Thank you for your support of this valuable research.

Understanding our Feelings in TA19KA

In Kindy we have been learning all about our feelings. We have been reading lots of books about feeling happy, surprised, sad and angry, and shared our own stories of times we felt these emotions. We met the Mood Monsters who helped us understand what feelings look like and feel like. We used the Mood Monsters’ colours to represent these feelings and painted a picture of a time we felt happy or surprised and sad or angry. We have been practising drawing facial expressions that show these feelings - we are getting so good at drawing now! We have also been learning how to regulate our emotions, we can do our mindful breathing or relax in the reading corner to help us feel better. Something that always makes us feel HAPPY is when ERIK our cocky notices our wonderful school behaviour! He loves to give us tokens to fill his nest with, and we love to give him cuddles!

Harmony Day in TA28

Over the past few weeks, Year Two students in TA28 have been learning about Harmony Day in preparation for our assembly item.

Harmony Day is about celebrating Australia’s cultural diversity and making sure everyone feels respected and valued in our community. Since 1945 more than 7.5 million people have migrated to Australia and nearly half of all Australians were born overseas or have a parent who was born overseas.

In our class of 22 students, we have families from 11 different countries all around the world! Can you identify all of the flags our students are holding to see which countries their families are from?
