Trends

• Purity – More emphasis on nature-based

products; health and wellness is a global trend

• Organic – Often ingredients rather than product

• Results Oriented – Problem/Solution products

• Skin Brightening – Not just for Asia; demise of

hydroquinone has created a new category

What is a natural or organic

personal care product?

• What is natural? Existing in or produced by

nature; Animal, Plant ,or Mineral

Where does TNI stand

in all of this?• Nature based

• No parabens

• No sulfates

• No animal derived

ingredients

• No volatile alcohol

• No animal testing

Page 8: TePoema Workshop

Parabens

• What are they? Esters of paraminobenzoic acid

• Why don’t we use them? Parabens can mimic

the hormone estrogen, as well as cause irritation

in sensitive individuals

• TNI has a serious leg up on the competition

when it comes to the exclusion of parabens in

our formulas

Page 9: TePoema Workshop

Sulfates

• What are they? Sulfur salts/surfactants

• Why don’t we use them? Irritation issues

• What do we use instead? Decyl glucoside

• Behentrimonium Methosulfate is not a

simple sulfate; it is an emulsifier and hair

conditioner made from canola and coconut

Page 10: TePoema Workshop

Volatile Alcohol

• Why don’t we use them? Drying and

―carrier‖ issues

• What do we use instead? Water based

systems and solubilizers/encapsulates

• Cetyl, Stearyl, and Cetearyl Alcohols are

not volatile alcohols

Animal-Derived Ingredients• Why are they bad? Social issues, BSE(Bovine

Spongiform Encephalopathy) and other animal-

borne diseases

• Examples of animal-derived ingredients: Animal

proteins such as collagen, elastin, and many

emulsifiers and waxes used in personal care

products

• What do we use instead? Plant derived

alternatives from soy, coconut and rice

Micro-Swelling

• What causes it? LIFE

• Balloon example

• How can we prevent it?

Page 13: TePoema Workshop

How to Prevent Skin Damage

• Avoid—eliminate if possible—damaging sources

• Use of sunscreen

• Noni elements, vitamin A, and vitamin E have

been found clinically to defend against micro-

swelling, most likely through their antioxidant

properties

• Slow down the micro-swelling process

Page 14: TePoema Workshop

© 2008 TAHITIAN NONI INTERNATIONAL

• Research showed:

• Free radicals induce signal molecules to start the

micro-swelling process

• Micro-swelling is always accompanied with free

radicals and eliminating free radicals slows down

micro-swelling

Micro-swelling is a multi-step process and

can be stopped at any step of the process.

Adenosine A2A has been found to stop

a middle step in micro-swelling.

Noni Clinical Study

• Research Results Show:

• Fresh squeezed leaf juice is antioxidant

• Leaf extract acts like Adenosine A2A

Page 16: TePoema Workshop

© 2008 TAHITIAN NONI INTERNATIONAL

• Products with noni elements contain

antioxidant and anti-micro-swelling

properties.

• Leaf juice & extract may be effective for

skin care purposes.
