If you were around in the ‘80s then you remember the iconic movie The

Breakfast Club. In it were five teenagers, each of whom was in a different

clique in high school. For one Saturday they were stuck in detention for

something they’d done wrong, or in the case of Allison …”for something to

do.” So you had, The Brain, The Jock, The Princess, The Bad Boy, and The

Weirdo. Stereotypes for sure, but then stereotypes evolve from things that

are at least in part, accurate. Still for this month’s article we will soften those

labels somewhat to state that in every group there are a variety of different

outlooks, personal characteristics, and approaches.

Kiwanis Club of Mukilteo has their own established Breakfast Club, but rather

than showing up for a mandated amount of time, we actually WANT to be in

school on a Saturday. (in this case, Olympic View Middle School on March

12th). And while we too bring to our [breakfast] table an assortment of

“titles” for the day fortunately they are ones we are proud of because we are

spending our Saturday, not sitting in detention, but raising funds to support

our community. We have The Prep Cooks, The Cooks, The Food Servers, The

Coffee Servers, The Cashiers, The Entertainment Crew and The Raffle Table

(and probably more).

Our Breakfast Club isn’t scheduled to serve time until March, but I am encour-

aging you to invite your friends and neighbors, get out and sell those pre-sale

tickets (Darlene Conklé has more tickets if you need them). If you are part of

a business, then donate raffle prizes for the auction, and if you can’t sign up

with Gary Webster to help out, then please be an attendee, and come support

the club’s efforts.

Breakfast…the most important meal of the day!

YOUR fun times….

Even though

it was only

28* out, Lou

was having a

great time at

Rasar, as he

called it,

“Glamping”

(glamorous

camping)

Both Pam Taylor (left) and Bill Calla-

han (right) have had to make trips

out of town recently due to health

concerns for each of their respective

mothers. Great news….apparently

both these Kiwanians come from

good stock. Promising results on both

fronts, and both Mamas are doing

well. Thank you Kiwanians, for send-

ing thoughts and prayers out to our

two club members during this very

stressful time.

treat with her

son, after enjoy-

ing an evening at

the Children’s

International Film

Festival.

Team Kiwanis provided dinner for

Cocoon House residents in January.

Thanks, Tom N, Tim, Gary, Pam, Joni, and

Nancy.

We are celebrating 13 years as a club,

working with Cocoon House. Who says

#13 is unlucky?! I’d say both the teens

AND our club have benefitted from the

relationship. Onward and upward to Year

#14. Woohoo!

Kiwanians are

Super Heroes

without the

costume.

Club president Scott Whelpley

presented Deb Bordsen of Domestic

Violence Services of Snohomish

County with a check to help them

provide much needed services to

at- risk families in our county.

Last year we asked Kiwanians “what are 10 things we don’t know

about you?” and we learned a lot about our fellow members!

This year the question is “what is on your bucket list?”
