INTRODUCTION

This miscellaneous file of pictures has been collected by the Tennessee Historical Society over anumber of years. Many different persons gave the pictures to the Society. The collection occupies6.72 cubic feet of shelf space, and numbers approximately 700 items. Single photocopies of the pictures in this collection may be made for purposes of scholarly research.

SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE

The Tennessee Historical Society Picture Collection, consisting of approximately 700 items, spansthe period from approximately 1800 to 1970. In addition to photographs, there are also engravings,lithographs and drawings. Included are photographs of many prominent Tennesseans, some nationalfigures, towns, buildings and landmarks throughout the state of Tennessee. The photographs in this collection are arranged alphabetically by subject. Following this scope andcontent note is a detailed listing of each photograph showing the box in which it is located. An index forthe collection is available in the Manuscript Section of Public Service.
