GENERAL NOTES FOR ROAD CONSTRUCTION GEOMETRIC DESIGN CRITERIA

1. FIELD SURVEY WAS.CARRIED OUT IN THE IVONTH OF IVARCH,2012,

2, CONTROL POINTS HAVE BEEN OBTAINED FROI!{ GPS AT EVERY sKIV AND INTERMEDIATE POINTSWERE ESTABLISHED AT APPROPORIATE INTERVALS WITH REFERNCE TO GPS CONTROL POINTS.

3. ALL DIMENSIONS AND DISTANCES SHOWN ON DRAWINGS ARE IN METERS UNLESS OTHERWISE STATED.

4. THE DESIGN SPEED HAS BEEN KEPT AS 1OO KPH FOR RURAL PLAIN AREAS AND 70 KPH FORBUILTUP PLAIN AREAS.

5. THE CUT SLOPE SHOWN ON TYPICAL X-SECTIONS ARE TENTATIVE AND TO BE DECIDED AT SITE, DEPENDINGUPON THE TYPE OF ROCK AND TYPE OF EXCAVATED I\,IATERIALS ENCOUNTERED DURING CONSTRUCTION ANDAS DIRECTED BY THE ENGINEER.

6. PROPER BENCHING IN CUT AS WELL AS IN HIGH FILL REACHES SHALL BE PROVIED DURING CONSTRUCT'IONAS WELL AS FOR PROPER BONDAGE BETWEEN EXISTING ROAD AND NEW EMBANKMENT CONSTRUCTION.

7, IF DURING CONSTRUCTION ANY WATER OR MOISTURE IS OBSERVED, THE SITE SHALL BE PROPERLYTREATED BY PROVIDING CAPILLARY CUT OFF LAYERAS DIRECTED BYTHE ENGINEER.CAPILLARYCUT OFF LAYER SHALL BE CONFINED WITH NON COHESIVE SOILS TO AVOID EROSION.

8- THE LENGTHS, SLOPES AND INVERT LEVELS OF CULVERTS, AS SHOWN IN SCHEDULE OF CULVERTS ARETENTATIVE, THE CONTRACTOR SHALL PREPARE SHOP DRAWINGS FOR EACH CULVERT PRIOR TO ITSCONSTRUCTION AND SHALL SUBMITTO THE ENGINEER FOR APPROVAL.

9- STRUCTURES SHOWN ON PLAN ARE SYMBOLIC, FOR DETAJL OF STRUCTURES, BREST WALLS, PROTECTIONVIORKS, SEE RELEVANT DRAWINGS IN STRUCTURAL DRAWINGS.

10, LOCATION OF UNDERGROUND CABLES AND UTILITIES SHOWN ON PLANS IS APPROXIMATE. EXACTLOCATION SHALL BE DETERI\4INED AT SITE DURING EXECUTION.

TYPICAL GROSS SECTIOilIS NOTES

( i) Existing road bituminous surface to be dismantled and removed(i i) After removal of bituminous surfacing, al l suitable pavement material (Base / Sub-base) wil l removed and stock

piled. The existing shoulders shall also be dismantled upto Sub-grade level and suitable material so obtainedshall be stock piled for re-use after conforming to the specifications requirement.

(i i i) Contractor wil l be repsonsible for achieving a minimum 7.5% CBR of Sub-grade. Compaction of Sub-grade iscarried out at 95% of MDD.

(iv) Sub-base layers must be compacted according to specifications. The Sub-base Course of 400 mm shall becompacted in three layers.

(v) Aggregate Base layer 270 mm thick should be laid & compacted in two layers on Fast (Right) Lane and innershoulder.

(vi) Lean Concrete '150 mm thick having 28 days compressive cylinder strength not less than 1400 psi wil l be laidwith Mechanical Paver on Sub-base in rigid pavement lane and wil l be extended 600 mm on outer ( left) side toprovide stable platform for Concrete Pavement.

(vi i) Lean Concrete should be cured by using proper amount of curing compound. Curing compound should bereapplied before placing the Concrete Pavement if worn off by plying of construction machinery or otheractivities. The surface of Lean Concrete should be properly finished and leveled. Any area that does notconform to the PGL requirement should also be corrected before placing the Jointed Plain Concrete Pavement(JPCP) and curing compund is reapplied at such locations.

(vi i i) Asphalt ic Base Course (Class-A)wil l be laid & compacted in two layers of equal thickness (90 mm each) andAsphalt Concrete Wearing Course (Class-B) in a single layer of 50 mm in Fast Lane before laying of JPCP .

(ix) The edges of Asphalt Layer wil l be saw cut on rigid lane side to get smooth joint.(x) Plain Dowel Bars of Grade 40 wil l be placed using Dowel Bar Basket and aligned properly and wil l be greased /

lubricated at one end (from center to one end / half) before placing of concrete pavement.(xi) The Plain Cement Concrete 350 mm thick having 28 days compressive cylinder strength not less than 5000 psi

shall be placed through Mechanlcal Paver.(xi i) Polyihene sheet shal l be laid as directed by theEngineer according to the Ni-lA Specif ication item 310.2.3.
