Rabbi’s Message
If you are 13 years old, and above, read on. Did you
know that TaNaKh is the Hebrew acronym for the 39
books of the Hebrew Bible? Have you ever read the entire
TaNaKh cover to cover... in English? Have you started
with Genesis and read, book by book, until the end of II
Chronicles? No?, me neither. Will you join me in the at-
tempt? Encouragment is found in the words of Joshua:
“This Book of the Torah shall not depart from your
mouth; but you shall meditate on it day and night, and then you shall have
good success.” (Joshua 1:8)
Can we do it? Encouragement is found in the Midrash on Songs of Songs
which gives ethical and devotional thoughts from 1,200 years ago. Rabbi
Jochanan of Sepphoris explained by a parable about enormous heaps of dust.
“A stupid person will say, ‘Who can clear away all this?’ But a sensible per-
son will say: ‘I will clear away two basketfuls by day and two by night, until it
is all cleared away.’ So a stupid student says: ‘Who can learn the whole of the
Torah?’ But the wise student says: ‘I will learn two halachot (laws) today and
two tomorrow, until I have learnt the whole.’ (Song of Songs Rabbah 5:11)
Will you join me in the attempt? “Rabbi, there are only 24 hours in a day and I
am already sleep deprived, when will I find the time?” If you wait for your life
to slow down, it is likely you will never read, nor ponder, the great teachings
of Judaism. There is so much to consider in the TaNaKh, so much wisdom to
glean, passages which bring solace, and passages with which to struggle,
should not we “attain a heart of wisdom” (Psalm 90:12) sooner than later?
I suggest we embark upon this at the next Jewish New Year. The next Jewish
New Year? September 17, 2012 when we usher in 5773? No, let us begin on
the new year, this spring, on the first of Nisan, Saturday, March 24.
What do you mean the new year this spring? In the Mishneh we learn that
there is more than one Jewish New Year. Actually, there are four New Years.
“On the first of Nisan is the New Year for Kings and for Festivals; on the first
of Elul is the New Year for the tithe of animals. On the first of Tishri is the
New Year for the years, for Sabbatical Years, for Jubilee Years, for planting
and for vegetables. And Shevat is the New Year for Trees on the fifteenth
thereof.” (Tractate Rosh Hashanah 1:1)
At the beginning of Nisan, every king’s reign began. It is also the month of
our redemption from Egyptian slavery, our joyous celebration of Passover,
and the month we began our journey, as a free people, to Mount Sinai and to
the Promised Land.
As your rabbi, my math might not be perfectly accurate, however, for the pur-
poses of soulful Jewish growth, consider the following mathematical calcula-
tions. In the 39 books of the TaNaKh, I counted 929 chapters. 929 chapters
divided by 3 chapters per day = 310 days to read the entire TaNaKh. If we
read 6 days per week, we will read the entire TaNaKh in less than 365 days!

A rabbi was waiting in line to have his car filled with gas just before a long holiday weekend. The attendant worked quickly, but there were many cars ahead of him. Finally, the at-tendant motioned him toward a vacant pump.
“Rabbi,” said the young man, “I'm so sorry about the delay. It seems as if everyone waits un-til the last minute to get ready for a long trip.”
The rabbi chuckled, “I know what you mean. It's the same in my business.”

Religious School Chadashot (News) By Rabbi Matt Eisenberg
THANK YOU Religious School families for the gift of your 52 students. You are invited to drop-by and see “learning
in action” each Sunday morning.
TZEDAKAH. In the fall, we collected $500 for the TINT Tzedakah Fund to buy Teddy Bears to send to children in
need. This winter, we set a goal of $500 to donate to the Jewish National Fund for the planting of 100 trees in Israel
for Tu B’shevat. At this time, we are a little above $400. Each student will receive a Tree Certificate from the JNF.
Todah Rabbah for your continued support of our tzedakah efforts.
TU B’SHEVAT SEDER and Shabbat Dinner, Friday, February 10. Nearly four score students and family members
enjoyed a delicious Shabbat Dinner and learned about The New Year for Trees. We thank the Retreat Institute of the
Jewish Community Federation for their programming and financial assistance. Also, special thanks to the Lenore No-
vember Memorial Fund, of our congregation, for subsidizing the majority of the Jack’s Deli Shabbat Dinner.
PURIM. DRESS UP on Friday, March 9 AND Sunday, March 11. We encourage students -- and adults -- to dress in
costumes related to Purim, however tangentially. Bring unconventional noise makers... a trumpet, a duck call, various
instruments, a kazoo, dry beans in a ball jar, etc. We will provide conventional greggors for a brief Megillah reading.
PURIM SHPIEL ala FIDDLER ON THE ROOF. Friday evening, March 9, we will tell the tale of Purim while
singing “Fiddler” tunes. This was a big hit in 2009 and we’re bringing back “Fiddler” for an encore! If you want to be
a cast member, call the Rabbi. The final rehearsal will be Sunday, March 4 from 12-2 p.m. No acting experience re-
quired. See “Here’s the Shpiel on the Purim Shpiel” for details.
SUNDAY SCHOOL begins, March 11, as usual, at 9:00 a.m. We will take attendance, do the Pledge of Allegiance,
sing Purim Shpiel songs, read Megillah, have a Costume Parade, eat Hamantaschen, and enjoy our annual Purim Car-
nival. Mrs. Madden could use a couple of adults to help with the Carnival, please call the temple office to volunteer.
The Carnival should begin about 10:45 a.m. All Carnival proceeds will go toward Religious School Tzedakah.
SPRING BREAK is broken due to calendar problems. No Sunday School, March 25 and April 8. There is Religious
School on Sunday, April 1. No Hebrew School on Wednesdays, March 28 and April 4.
PASSOVER MODEL SEDER will be Sunday, April 1. Unfortunately, if we do not have the Model Seder on April 1,
we will not be able to get it on the calendar at all.
SPRING CLEAN-UP outdoors to beautify our congregation for Earth Day, Sunday, April 15. Details to follow soon.
YOM HA-ATZMAUT 64: Israel Independence Day Parade through our Temple’s neighborhood, Sunday morning,
April 29. This is open to everyone.
Remember to bring in your Box Tops for Education and put
them in the collection box in
Wendy’s office. That extra money
goes to cover religious school expenses.

From the President’s Desk
By Joy Gray
Last night TINT welcomed another new adult into the congregation: Will Horvat, son of Darcy and Michael. As
I kvelled with them, I thought -- again – about what makes Temple Israel Ner Tamid so special. Yes, all synagogues
celebrate b’nai mitzvah, have Shabbat services, and on and on. But…
Where else are all cousins-- Jewish and non-Jewish, pre b’nai mitzvah age and post – welcomed onto the bima to watch
as their cousin reads from Torah? Where else does the religious school “ensemble” take out their instruments and ac-
company our singing of “Ha Tikvah” to end the service? Where else does the pb&j table get set up in the back of the
social hall even when it’s lavishly decorated and tables are piled high with oneg goodies, so that family and friends can
put on plastic gloves and help in our every Shabbat mitzvah of feeding Cleveland’s hungry that very night?
As always I feel that special something that makes our temple a family. And as with other families, there are the ones
with the much more sumptuous homes than ours, yet ours feels comfortable, and we know it’s where we can relax. Oth-
er families have a much greater income or more status or are bigger, and other families are more formal than ours.
Sometimes we feel the need to get away from family for awhile, but when we return, we can kick off our shoes and feel
soothed. And when we’re tired or sad or hurting or bursting with wonderful news, our family is where we turn to share –
and thus it is for me and for so many other congregants with Temple Israel Ner Tamid.
I continue to be grateful to TINT, my temple, for being a little quirky and a lot wonderful. What a great family!
Rabbi’s Message from Page 2
Will you spend 15 minutes per day
on your Jewish soul and intellect?
Will you join Rabbi Fred and me?
We will begin on Shabbat, March
24, and hope dozens of you will en-
gage in Torah learning too. If you do
not have a good, readable text, go to
Frank’s Hebrew Bookstore and buy
a JPS TaNaKh. I would suggest a
small calendar to “check off” each
day of reading. Please call the Tem-
ple office and let me know “I’m in,
Rabbi!”
All the best and shalom,
Here’s the Shpiel on the Purim Shpiel
A Fiddler On The Roof Purim Shpiel is our off-off-off Broadway Shpiel for
5772. All of the songs are from “Fiddler” with Purim lyrics and dialogue
written by Rabbi Billy Dreskin and Cantor Ellen Dreskin, formerly of Cleve-
land.
If you want to be in the cast of characters... and oy, are they characters... con-
tact the Rabbi (440) 473-5120. This Shpiel is an easy, fun, cute, congrega-
tional sing-a-long with NO memorization. Just dress up and read your part.
It’s in the format of an old time radio show and the entire cast stands together
on the bima. When we did this in 2009, we had more people than parts. No
problem—we shared! It is a loose’n’easy good time.
There are 2 rehearsals, and surprise, the first one was February 26.But don't
worry, we know what a quick study you are. Come to the second and final,
rehearsal on Sunday, March 4, from 12:00ish to 2:00ish.
There will be 1.5 performances. Our full blown, bombastic, over-the-top off
Broadway debut will be at Shabbat Services, Friday, March 9. The .5 perfor-
mance will be Sunday morning, March 11, at about 10:00 a.m.
Hooray Esther, Yeah Mordechai... Boo Haman! Happy Purim!
