What is the Music Industry?Well, like any other business, the music industry sells! It sellswritten music known as Compositions as well as recordingsand musical performances. There are many parts to the music industry thatmake the whole thing function. These include performers, managers, writers, record companies, stores, agents, lawyers and many others. This is basically the musicalequivalent of a CV. It is a sample sound recording that the singer or bandput together of their music which will hopefully get the attention of arecord company or music producer. The use of A&R (Artists & Repertoire)managers may also be used by record labels to scout out new talent. Many

Once a marketable talent has been identified by a record label ormusic producer, they may be offered a recording contract (recorddeal ).A recording contract is simply a legal agreement between theartist and the record label of the conditions in which they will worktogether. These contracts can be quite detailed, they basically offer theartist a chance to have the recording process financed in return for ashare of the rights to the recording. Recording Deals are a major part of

the music industry. Artists usually hire people to assist them with theiraffairs. First they may hire an entertainment lawyer who will helpthem understand and assist them in their contracts with the recordcompanies.A business manager will also be employed to handle all the financial affairsof the artist ( Tax and book-keeping). Tour managers are also needed toensure that an artist/s on tour has everything looked after for them. Theduties of a tour manager would include arranging the tickets for

    CDS and DVDS

CD= Compact DiscDVD= Digital Versatile DiscCDS and DVDS are optical discs used for storing digital data. The basicdifference between the two is the amount of data that they can store. When a CD or DVD is then placed into yourCD player or video machine, a laser beam within the machines pick up thetrack of data and reflects it back to an optical-electro device that detects

changes in light. Other electronics within the machine then convert thesechanges in light patterns to signals that we can hear or see in a clear way.Sound Engineering: Have you ever wondered why listening to aperformer playing liveis not as clear as listening to their music on a CD?The reason for this is because when the artist is recording
