The bridge consists of four spans, one over each rubber bladder. Each is 228 feet long, weighs 165,000 pounds and is 34 feet high. Two cranes were required to lift and move the first bridge section.

Bridge Facts: Each span consists of an upper arch and a

lower arch that cross, the bridge deck and the connecting cables.

A sprinkler system will hang from the bridge to cool the rubber bladders that hold back the waters of Town Lake.

Killer Shade of Phoenix is providing canopies throughout the bridge designed to match the architecture of the Tempe Center for the Arts and to cool pedestrians as they cross.

The majority of funding for this $5 million bridge comes from federal grants.

The bridge connects

the Tempe Center for the Arts

on the south bank

of Tempe Town Lake,

to the relaxing

pace of the more

natural north bank.

Workers lay steel decking before they pour concrete to form the bridge walkway.

These workers are the first people to walk on the bridge, as they are creating the walkway. They are tethered to the bridge itself for safety.
