HAINAN, CHINA INITIATIVE• Hainan Medical College contacted U of U with
interest in its global health program‒ Agreed with overall mission and goals‒ Agreed with local community and U of U partnership model‒ Believes participating in a “health diplomacy” program benefits
local doctors, students and residents of the community
• Conducted site inspection and initial discussion first quarter 2009‒ Working through logistics and scope of project‒ Hainan Medical College is on board, local government suppotive
but collaborative approach is unfamiliar
• This is key to success of program and collaboration must be procured before beginning the project
