The History Of the Telephone

The telephone was first invented in 1876, by Alexander Graham Bell. Later that year, in august, the first long distance phone-call was made. Just four years later, there were about 60,000 phones in America.

What was the First Phone made of?

When you think about a phone now, it looks simple, but seems very complex to make. Back then, the phones (to us) looked very complicated, on the outside. Yet, the first one Alexander Graham Bell made, was simply created out of some copper wires, a wooden stand, a funnel, and a cup of acid.

FACT :1st payphone was installed in Hartford, Connecticut in Hartford bank.

What Did People Think First?

In the early years of the telephone, many people thought it would not last, they didn’t see much need for this device. Others believed it could be dangerous, that people could pass dangerous information. Although, the majority of people thought it was a great idea.

Made to Improve…

Alexander Graham Bell’s idea for the phone was to improve the telegraph, also a method of communication. Both telephone and and telegraph were wire based electrical systems.

Of course, now the phone has been improved from the complicated design to sleek touch screens with apps and cameras.

We Have a Responsibility to the Telephone?

As people with a culture of technology, with phones, we should respect and remember Alexander Graham Bell, who actually created the phone.

We also must take care and use our phones the way we were meant to, to communicate. Not to cyber-bully or share mean things.

More or Less Popular? You can most likely tell that phones, now, are

definitely more popular. Long time ago, a phone was not a necessity, nor is it one today, but now it seems like everyone wants, “needs” , or has a cell-phone. While pretty much every household has a telephone.

Change is a Good ThingChange has definitely made its way to the telephone.

Now, we have apps, touch-screens, and much more on phones. As well as texting and facetiming. We never think of how luxourious our phones are today, we are a very lucky generation.

My ReflectionI definitely learned a lot of information about the

telephone. Before I started research, (hard to believe) I didn’t even know who invented the telephone. And I didn’t think of much history behind phones we have today. I learned that there weren’t always small cell-phones and modern phones. The telephone has lots of history and I hope you learned something about it.

FACT: Tele means afar in Greek and phone means voice/sound.
