ALEXANDER GRAHAM BELL

Alexander Graham Bell invented the telephone. remarkably, he only worked on his invention because he misunderstood a technical work he had read in german.his misunderstanding ultimately led to his discovery of how speech couldbe transmitted electrically.

A telephone, or phone, is a telecommunications device that permits two or more users to conduct a conversation when they are too far apart to be heard directly.

ETIQUETTEEtiquette is being polite. It is

good manners.

Etiquette is a code of conduct, both

written and unwritten, for basic behavior

that is socially expected from individuals

in a society based on cultural norms. These

behaviors include the proper way of socially

interacting with others, guidelines for handling

yourself in public, to the manner of dress that

is considered acceptable for various occasions

and circumstances.

Telephone etiquette :

A set of rules apply when people make calls to others or when they are receiving a phone call

being respectful to the person you are talking with,

showing consideration for the other person's limitations ,

allowing that person time to speak,

communicating clearly and

much , much more.

Importance of TelephoneEtiquette:

Good phone etiquette is important because we cannot see the facial expressions andbody language of the other personand they cannot see us. Telephone etiquette offers a way forpeople to function politely together ina society, eliminating frustration andcommunication mishaps.

Telephone is so essential nowadays in business, in school, at home, and even among friends. Through telephone, we could get an immediate reply. It is by telephone that communication could be done easily.

• Remember to keep the voice friendly and manners pleasant

• Speak loud enough to be heard and understood by the person at the end of the other line.

• A person should not be kept waiting for a long time.

• Impressions and suggestions of impatience, hurry and annoyance are to be avoided.

• The telephone caller should think of the other person at the other end of a line as if he were standing before him.

• Smoothness and courtesy require that the telephone conversation should not last too long, most especially when it is a company phone.

• The person making the call should be the last to hang up.

TELEPHONE PROCEDURES

The telephone plays an important part in creating the correct impression of the company. Therefore, it is important that anyone who answers the telephone projects a professional image.

1.The caller should not hang up if the phone is not answered after two or three rings. Give a chance for the other party to reach the phone. The phone being called must ring forat least six times.

2. Answer promptly3 .Avoid calling wrong numbers by referring to a directory or a list instead of relying on memory.

4. Apologize when a mistake is made. 5. The person answering the phone should identify himself and his department or company

6. The caller, after the greetings, Should also identify himself and ask For the person he wanted to call.

7. If the caller did not identify himself, the one who answered the phone may politely ask the name of the caller by asking “may I know who is calling?” Or “may I know who is on the line please?”

8. If the person sought is busy ,the answer may be:” Mr. Santos is busy right now. May I take your message?” Or “Mr. Santos is out of business, did you have a message?”

9. If the caller is asked to wait, you may ask: ”would you mind waiting?” And thank him for waiting.

10. End the telephone conversation on a friendly note.
