PRINCIPAL’S PATTER

Hello Everyone

We will be holding our Open Afternoon on Monday 25 June, from 3.10 pm to

5.00 pm. Parents will be able to visit classrooms to view their children’s work,

class displays and receive end of semester reports. Please put this important

date in your diaries, as we would really like to see all parents coming along if

possible. Anyone who is unable to attend our Open Afternoon can make

alternative arrangements with their classroom teachers. Please note that

the Edu Dance Concert (P-6) will also be held during the afternoon from 2.30

– 3.10pm, and the P & C will also be holding various fund raising events.

Next Friday (June 8th) all our students from years 4-6 will participate in the

Winter Carnival to be held at our school and Seamers Sports Centre. Sports

to be played include netball, soccer and volleyball and other schools

competing are Takari, Osborne, East Hamersley and Lake Monger.

Games start at 12.45pm and conclude at 2.45pm. Parents and friends are

welcome to come and spectate and to cheer our teams on.

Over the next few weeks, we hope to have work commenced on the

upgrading of our netball/basketball courts (weather permitting).

Have a great weekend everyone – welcome to winter.

NATIONAL SIMULTANEOUS STORYTIME DAY

National Simultaneous Story time is held annually by the

Australian Library and Information Association. Every year a

picture book,

written and

illustrated by

an Australian

author and

illustrator, is read simultaneously

in libraries, schools, pre-schools,

childcare centres, family

homes, bookshops and many

other places around the

country. This year NSS took

place on Wednesday 23 May at

11am. Miss Ridley captivated P/P –

3’s attention in the undercover area

by reading this year’s chosen book,

Hickory Dickory Dash written by Tony

Wilson, (illustrator Laura Wood).

While the juniors

were listening to

Hickory Dickory

Dash, the Year 4,

5 & 6 students listened to the story Sam,

Grace and the Shipwreck, written by

Michelle Gillespie. This was read by Mrs.

Keen in the library assisted by Jenna from

Room 6 who held a second copy so the

students could follow the storyline supported by the illustrations

in the book by Sonia Martinez.

It tells the

dramatic story of

the shipwreck of

the SS Georgette

in 1876 off the

south coast of

Western Australia

and the heroic

efforts by a local

stockman and a

16 year old girl to

rescue and help

survivors from the turbulent waters, whilst on horseback.

What is Commitment? Commitment is caring deeply about something or someone. It is the willingness to give your all to friendship, a task, or something you believe in. It is the ability to make decisions and follow through on them. It is keeping your promises.

Why Practise It? Without commitment, we just drift along, with no idea where we are going. We change our minds. We give up easily if things get too hard. We break our word. We give up on people we care about if they disappoint us or make a mistake. When we are committed, people can count on us to keep our promises. With commitment we can achieve great things.

Signs of Success Congratulations! You are practising Commitment when you:

• think before you make a promise

• keep every agreement you make

• make decisions confidently

• go the extra mile

• give 100% to everything you do

• are faithful to people you care about

CHAPLAIN’S CORNER

Remember that our School Breakfast Club is in the

undercover area every Tuesday morning before School

from 8:20am. Bring your children along and meet other

parents. It is a great time for our students to see their

friends & get the energy they need to focus & learn well.

We would be very glad to see any parents/ grandparents

/carers that can help with making toast, milo, cutting up

fruit or pouring drinks.

We are very much seeking some volunteers, so,

please let the office, Mr Cox or Mrs McCarthy

know if you can help one or more weeks this

term. Thank you.

Cake Stall - Calling all Bakers!

The P & C is excited to announce that we will once again be holding a cake

stall during the open afternoon following the Edu Dance performances on 25

June. We will be asking for donations to the stall for us to sell – whole cakes,

cupcakes, slices, toffees etc.…. so get baking!!

Please Note, we kindly request donations of home made goods only

that will need to be delivered on the day. More information to follow.

OPEN DAY Planning for our Open Day activities is underway!

After the Edu Dance Concert on 25 June, from 3.10pm – 5pm the P & C are

organising some extra activities for the whole family to enjoy!!

There will be a cake stall, sausage sizzle (halal options available) plus more fun

and games !!!!!!

Some lovely volunteers will be offering henna tattooing. Please come along and

enjoy the celebrations. A volunteer’s information sheet & form has been sent

home with today’s newsletter outlining proposed activities.

If you can help, please complete the volunteers form & return to the

designated P & C boxes placed in each classroom by Tuesday 12th June, 2018.

This will allow the P & C enough time to decide which activities will go ahead.

If we can’t find enough volunteers, we will drop activities as required.
