Principal’s Report Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea Stage 3 Excursion Out & About Canteen Mobile Phone Recycling Program Date Claimers CircusFun Student Attendance Community News I really didn’t know what heading to put on this paragraph but it’s hard to say goodbye without a certain sound of finality about it so there is no heading. It is very much with mixed emotions that I announce I’ve accepted an offer of a transfer to Northlakes Primary on the Central Coast. The transfer will become effective at the start of Term 4. I’ve been out west for quite a while now and this has been the best community I’ve had the pleasure and indeed honour to work amongst. I’ve said time and again over the last 4 years that we have a great bunch of kids and I still believe that. Our community has a history and loyalty to the school that would be the envy of many and our staff are dedicated and committed to achieving the best outcomes for our kids. While I look forward to being much closer to my family, I will definitely miss the children, the staff and community of Alma Public School. I will always cherish the memories and I thank you all for being a part of them. Uniforms Recently there have been some variations to the school uniform and to date there has been no change to school uniform. The polo shirts with the white panels coming into school as part of the uniform are not part of the school uniform. Our school uniform as far as polo shirts go, is still either the red or white with the school logo. If there is a perceived need for a change in uniform among the community I am more than happy to look at this but at this stage we are still going with the current colours. If you feel there is a need to review our uniform please call the office and just let the office staff know that you’d like to see a review of uniform for Alma Public School. If there are sufficient numbers then we’ll conduct a survey and go from there. Mrs DeGoumois From this Thursday till the end of Term 2 Mrs DeGoumois is taking leave. Her reports however, will be sent home with the other classes and she will do her best to be available for interviews in Week 10. We have found a replacement for 5-6K till the end of the term. Mr Johnston will be relieving as Assistant Principal Stage 3 during Mrs DeGoumois’ absence. Welcome I’d like to take this opportunity to welcome Ms Nicole Ansell to the Alma team as of today and until the end of Term 3. Ms Ansell’s first duty will be to cover Mrs DeGoumois’ class from Thursday till end of term while she is on leave. She will also be covering Mrs Hinchey’s Long Service Leave in August. Outside of these two blocks, Ms Ansell will cover day to day short term and special program relief. Kitchen Garden Submission I’d like to thank Mr Johnston and Mr Rae for their hard work and effort in organising this submission on behalf of Alma Public School. Whilst we didn’t have a big turnout for the parent information evening, there were a huge number of letters of support organised and they are now coming in. If you’ve promised a letter of support please get it to the school by this Thursday. Thank you for your continued support and have a great week. Regular attendance at school is extremely important and each absence or partial absence means that your child has missed learning which is not always caught up. Children between the ages of 6 years and 17 years are required by law to attend school every day. It is a legal requirement that if a child is absent or late for any reason then it must be explained in a signed note by the parent / caregiver. The Home School Liaison Officer checks for notes to match absences and if absences are not accompanied by a note parents / caregivers may need to explain. Certain procedures must be carried out when children are absent from school for any period of time. This includes full day absence and partial absence (late arrival to school / early departure due to appointments or sickness). IF YOUR CHILD IS LATE TO SCHOOL

You must send a note with your child explaining the reason for late

arrival

Your child must go straight to their classroom where the class teacher will collect the note and mark

them as “partial absent” with the reason as to why they are late.

IF YOU NEED TO COLLECT YOUR CHILD DURING SCHOOL HOU RS

You must report to the Administration Office where you will be issued with an “Early Departure

Slip” to take to your child’s teacher who will then release your child from class.

*Sick children will be signed out through sick bay and the Administration Office.

If your child is returning to school they must go directly to class. The teacher will then make a

note of their return.

You may send a note with your child informing the class teacher of the intended time of collection.

The teacher will send your child to the Administration Office where you must report for signing out.

Please note: ALL STUDENTS LEAVING THE SCHOOL DURING SCHOOL HOURS MUST BE SIGNED OUT AT THE ADMINISTRATION OFFICE The school has printed ’Reason for Absence’ booklets to assist you to notify the school when your child is absent or late which were distributed to families last term. More of these booklets are available from the front office.
