As the catering provider in your child’s school we have been working with school staff, cooks and other partners to provide nutritious spring and summer menus for your child to eat well in school. As part of our work and as a recommendation of the School Food Plan we are working towards the Food for Life Catering Mark Bronze Award for the majority of primary schools. This award is not just for schools and you may have eaten in a restaurant or other venue which has the award. You can be guaranteed that our food is fresh and that we make healthy eating easy. All of our meat and dairy products come from farms which meet red tractor standards All of our fish is from sustainable sources Meals are free from undesirable additives, artificial trans-fats or GM ingredients We use local suppliers - our meat is from farms in County Durham and Teesside, some of our vegetables are grown in Northumberland and we get some of our milk from an organic farm in Co Durham. All of our eggs are free range. For more information about the award and the school food plan, this can be found at www.foodforlife.org.uk and www.schoolfoodplan.com Throughout next term we will be working with schools to ensure that we are ready for the introduction of free meals for infant aged children. We will be working closely with your school and making sure that the menu is right and compliant with new food standards the staff are well trained to cook good food which is freshly prepared each day We would love to hear your views and suggestions. If you would like to comment on the food that we serve in your child’s school, please contact Christine Herriot by email [email protected] or by telephone 0191 2787878 or visit the website on www.newcastle.gov.uk and search City Schools Catering. If you are on Income Support or receive certain other benefits, your child is entitled to a free school lunch. It could be worth around £370 a year to you and your child. If you think that you may be entitled then we urge you to go for it. The approval of your free school meals application may mean you also get financial help with music tuition and with curriculum related residential trips or school visits.
