Telecom Italia NWS launches new GEA services «MEF certified»

GEA MEF – The certification

On April the 16th, during «MEF Forum» held in Frankfurt, Telecom Italia obtained the MEF- CE 2.0 Certification (first Telco Operator in Europe and fifth in the world ).

The MEF Certification set hard requirements regarding both Network Elements and Service Architecture, evaluating also the availabilty and the manageability of the Network.

«Iometrix», a California-based company, is the «Testing LAB» entrusted by MEF. During last months «Iometrix» held many tests on Telecom Italia OPM Network, certificating its performances.

GEA PL and GEA VPL – Services and performances

The two new services are P2P links delivered on «KIT GEA» using NNI standard 802.1ad ( so they are similar to «GEA Line-NNI» already available)

They offer predicatble performances (*) according to «MEF STD 23.1» :

Packet Loss < 10-4

Max Latency : 30 ms

Max Jitter : 40 ms

The service «GEA MEF VPL» (Virtual Private Line) allows to deliver more S-VLAN on the same switch port located in the «end customer» site.

(*) These performances are measured End to End , from L2 Switch in the customer site to the deliver site on the port of KIT GEA .
