The Beatitudes: Everyone has a great desire to be happy. Many offer suggestions and even write books on keys to a happy life. Today’s gospel, the Beatitudes as part of Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount, is the Catholic roadmap to attain happiness in life. What Jesus continues to ask us to do are totally opposite of what the world tells us on how to achieve happiness. The central point of Jesus’ teach-ing focuses on the fact that we create happiness by radiating our blessed life to others. Jesus calls us to be detached from material things: letting go of the unessential things in life and give more to the poor and needy. He wants us to care for our loved ones and value the relationships, especially of those broken relationships having resulted from anger. We need to always be hum-ble; we need to credit God’s involvement in our successes. It is not by our own might and intellect that we can achieve success in life--apart from God’s love for us. God also desires us to be merciful. Not only are we called be em-pathetic with those who suffer, but we must be willing to walk in their shoes as well. With a clean heart, we are challenged to joyfully serve our Lord with all our abilities to glorify God’s kingdom, not for our own self-interest. Jesus wants us to feel His presence in the small and ordinary events of our everyday lives. It is imperative for us to be peacemakers, not simply peace-lovers; we must proactively promote harmony within our family and community. We need to go out of our way to reconcile quar-rels. St. Paul reminds us in the second reading that God “chose the foolish of the world to shame the wise.” Therefore, there is no excuse for us not to fol-low Christ so that we too may enjoy this blessed life.

We thank you very much for your support. May God bless you and keep you al-ways.

Did You Know?
Pay attention to and address risky behavior It is possible for children to abuse other children, and that when it happens, the effects can be devastating for the child who has been abused. As caregivers, make sure to notice any young people who are exhibiting be-haviors that are troublesome or inappropriate. Be there
to step in when high-risk behavior is present. Support the youth, and give him/her the opportunity to get professional help, to go to counseling with a therapist that is trained in this issue, and to talk with you about the challenges they are facing so that together you can find solutions.
