Theodore Roosevelt
• Born 1858 into a wealthy New York family
• Suffered asthma and was very weak as a child but overcame these physical feats when he became a teenager
• Enjoyed active life style• Became very popular in the
Spanish-American War while serving with the Rough Riders

1901 when William McKinley was shot
• Was an active, energetic, and forceful president and he used this to influence the media
• Focused on reforming the nation • Square Deal – President Roosevelt’s
program of progressive forms design to protect the common people against big business

• In 1903 Roosevelt set aside 148 million acres of forest reserves
• Roosevelt believed in conservation and wanted to have more National Parks
