What is Invisible Children?

Invisible Children is an activist organization that is trying to help the children of the war stricken Uganda escape the fear of being abducted and

being forced to be a child soldier. They raise awareness about their struggles and the

importance of helping to apprehend the man in charge,

Joseph Kony, to end the horrible acts that are

happening there.

Throughout the speech, the engagement of the audience was maintained by showing a video documenting the event she held in Chicago, and used small comedic

elements to lighten up the mood of the speech.

Out of the 10 TED commandments, Natalie best follows commandment number 4, which is to “Connect with people’s emotions”. This is because she centered her speech around the

emotional response that Invisible Children evokes in those who know about it, and also explains her own struggles in order to better connect

with her audience.

Dynamism Scale5

The speaker used personal experiences, a video clip, specific examples, insight

into her life, and related to her audience. Therefore, her speech was very dynamic and came across to the audience clearly.

What I have learned about delivery from the speaker is that personal experiences, even if

they are not directly related to the main topic of your speech, can still help draw your audience in

emotionally and keep their attention.

Some tips that I can give my classmates on delivery for their

upcoming speeches are that including personal examples and visuals can help further convey

what you are trying to get across to your audience.
