J) Ted currently serves on the board of directors of Col- orado Field Ornithologists, and formerly served on the Western Field Ornithologists’ board. Ted and his family—wife Kei, daughter Hannah, and son Andrew—live in Boulder County, Colorado. Ted will be leading the following sessions at the 2015 South Dakota Birding Festival: Friday, May 1, 2015 Bird ID Workshop: Starting Over A birding skills workshop for everyone! Whether you're brand-new to birding or an ex- pert, we're all going to wipe the slate clean. Instead of focusing on color and pattern, we'll look at "soft" field marks: a bird's behavior, its size and shape, and its ecological context. This "holistic" approach to bird ID really works! Saturday, May 2, 2015 Skills Workshop: How to Use Gadgets We'll go outside for a bit and learn how to take photos with cell phones, how to get use- ful video, and how to make great sound recordings. Then we'll go indoors, upload our data to various websites, and learn and share with birders everywhere. No experience necessary, no equipment necessary. Keynote address: Birding Then & Now In this spirited presentation, Ted Floyd will look at how birding has changed in the past 35 years. Our technology is different, the birds we watch are different, and we ourselves have changed. Is the change is all for the better? And where is it taking us?
