2 IntroductionTNMS-M series products are network management system which are used to manage andmaintain MSTP network elements built by SURPASS hiT series products.
The TNMS-M series network management system products include TNMS-M LCT andTNMS-M. (See Fig. 2.1)

TNMS-M LCT (Local Craft Terminal) provides NE level TNMS-M based managementfunction and GUI. One TNMS-M LCT application can only connect and manage one NE atone time. The interface between TNMS-M LCT and NE is SNMP based. Different typenetwork element corresponds to different type LCT, which is mainly used for on-sitemanagement and maintenances.
TNMS-M SURPASS hiT 7020 LCT is an element management system of single NE, which isdesigned to provide comprehensive fault, configuration, performance management functionsfor the SURPASS hiT 7020 product line.

6 Installation
6.1 Route ConfigurationTNMS-M SURPASS hiT 7020 LCT manages NEs based on TCP/IP addresses. Therefore,the user must set a static route to enable the LCT system to find the NE. Before setting theroute, ensure that the console port and the MGMT port of the users computer are connectedwith the peer ports of SURPASS hiT 7020.
TNMS-M SURPASS hiT 7020 LCT only supports NE management by the MGMTport.

9. IP Address Configuration
Press from the Main Menu to configure the node IP address, the management port IPaddress, the management port subnet mask, and the default gateway for the management
port.The user can select 1 to 4 to configure the special IP address based on his/her needs.

command to add thestatic route information into the users computer; that means the added routes IP address is192.168.16.243, the mask is 255.255.255.255, and the gateway is 192.168.12.243. (See Fig.6.10)

6.2 Installingthe LCT SoftwarePackageAfter selecting the SURPASS hiT serial products, Siemens post sales engineers andtechnical support technicians will help to complete selecting and installing hardware andsoftware based on requirements. A TNMS-M SURPASS hiT 7020 LCT installation CD will beprovided. Install the LCT software package on the provided CD using the wizard mode onany qualified operating system.
To describe how to install the LCT software package, the following example is provided.

1. Double-click the icon of TNMS_M_SURPASS_hiT7020_R31L13_setup.exe. Awelcome screen will be shown. (See Fig. 6.11) Then click to continue.

7 Starting and Shutting down TNMS-M SURPASS hiT 7020LCT
7.1 StartingTNMS-M SURPASShiT 7020 LCTAfter the TNMS-M SURPASS hiT 7020 LCT software is installed, there are two methods tostart the TNMS-M SURPASS hiT 7020 LCT:
Option 1:
If the option is selected during the installation process, a icon will be shown on Desktop. (See Fig. 7.1) Double-click the
icon to start the LCT program.

Then the LCT program will start. During this process, a DOS window will be shown. (SeeFig. 7.3) Select the users server IP which can communicate with the NE. (The user can runthe IPCONFIG command in the Servers DOS window and will get Servers IP address.)

I. If the Network adapter of the computer has more than one IP addresses, the LCTprogram will ask the user to set IP address.
II. The users server IP address should be different from the server IP address of TNMS-M.If they use the same IP address, the LCT program cannot be started if TNMS-M isrunning.
Wait for a few seconds and the LCT login window will be shown. (See Fig. 7.4) Input LCTsLogin Name, Password and NEs Node IP Address which can be communicated with. Thenclick .

For example, the user can login TNMS-M SURPASS hiT 7020 LCT using account:

The password can be changed in the LCT program.
Note:
I. The NE will disconnect from the LCT program when the NE is restarted. The LCTprogram will re-connect to the NE automatically after the NE is restarted. To connectmanually, the user needs to wait at least 40s after the NE is restarted.
II. The LCT program cannot connect to the NE which has been managed by the TNMSserver launched on the same host.
III. There is no READ/WRITE access control policy implemented between TNMS-M and theLCT program.
After successfully connecting to the NE, the LCT main window will be shown. (See Fig. 7.5)

9 NE Configuration and ManagementBefore performing actions on TNMS-M SURPASS hiT 7020 LCT, the LCT must beconnected to an NE.
9.1 ChassisViewWhen TNMS-M SURPASS hiT 7020 LCT is connected to an NE, the NE Chassis view willbe displayed, which shows the real-time status of the NE. (See Fig. 9.1)

For example, when the second card from the right side in Fig. 9.1 is plugged in, the green warning will be marked on the card. If the card is pulled out, the red warning will be marked on the card.
In this view, the user can see a total representation of the current node status, including agraphical view of all the slots, the card functions, the card types, the status of individualports, the power status, and other NE functions. The user can modify node properties in theconfiguration windows. The configuration windows can be opened from the main menu baror the right-click menu of the chassis view.
Select to refresh the chassis view.
9.2 NE PropertyConfigurationTo open the window, select from the main menu.

9.5 NE FTP Configuration

The FTP Settings can get the latest software and data support from the FTP server. Toperform NE software management, MIB management, the user needs to configure first theTNMS-M FTP setting as well as the FTP server.
Use the following steps to apply FTP Settings:Select from the main menu. The window will be shown with the current FTP settings. (See Fig. 9.6)

To modify the current configuration in the section:
Input the FTP servers IP address in the field.
Input the FTP username in the field.
Input the FTP user password in the field.
Note: Both of username and password are by default.
All the latest software and data of FTP server are stored in the
folder (%Install_Drive% specifies the drive letter of the hard disk drive containing the LCTprogram). For example, if the LCT program is installed in Drive C, the FTP root will be the folder. (See Fig. 9.7)

9.9 NE SoftwareManagementTwo software images can be stored in the TNMS-M SURPASS hiT 7020 LCT, an activeimage and a backup image. Using the LCT, the user can download a TNMS-M SURPASShiT 7020 NE software image to the NE as the backup version from the FTP server or theuser may switch software images between active and backup versions.
NE software management is done by the steps below:

NOTE:1) System cold reboot (system initialization) takes 3 minutes to complete. It is suggested
that no other operations (such as card insertion or pull-out, system power-on or power-off) be performed during the system initialization.
2) System cold reboot will cause traffic hit. The traffic hit time is about 30 second,maximum 3 minutes.
3) System warm reboot process takes 2 minutes. It is suggested that no operations (suchas card insertion or pull out, system power on or power off) be performed during systemreboot.
4) Card reset will impact the traffic passing through this card. The traffic hit time is about30 seconds (maximum 60 seconds).

9.10 NE MIB ManagementThe SURPASS hiT 7020 MIB consists of the internal databases/files in the NE that store allthe NE configurations and runtime status information. There are two versions of MIB filesstored in the NE: an active version and a backup version, all the MIB management functionscan be performed by using the LCT.
Following the steps below to perform MIB management:

In the window, to upload the MIB files from the NE to the FTP server,input the directory in which the MIB files will be saved on the FTP server in the field, and then click .
To download the MIB files from the FTP server to the NE, input the directory in which theMIB files exist in the field, and then click .
To activate the backup MIB version, click . This operation will activate the backupMIB version.
When MIB switch is executed, the network management system reminds user toWarm reboot or Cold Reboot the system based on the system operation manual. Theuser should reboot the system immediately. Before system reboot (after the MIB isswitched), any NE operation will not be saved into MIB; therefore, any operation before
system reboot is invalid.
The field shows the state of the last command. Click toget the value of State of Last Command field.

10 SDH Configuration and Management
10.1 Card Configurationand ManagementIn the chassis view, the card selected becomes framed in blue.
There are two methods to open the card configuration window in chassis view:
Right-click the card, select , or
Select the card, and select from themain menu.

Fields Description
Slot Number The slot this card has been plugged into.
Card Function The function of the card. The function of the card will also beshowed in the chassis view, on the right top corner of thiscard, and in a floating window box after the mouse has beenpointing on the card for a while.

Select these parameters from the drop-down menus to find the Cross-Connect of interest,i.e. the target Cross-Connect.
After choosing a specific Source Card or Sink Card, manually choose the port to restrict theCross-Connect to a more limited range.
