The New Amsterdam Historic District is a concentration of early twentieth centuryindustrial buildings associated with Detroit’s booming manufacturing base. A numberof the district’s buildings are fine examples of the reinforced concrete architectureof Albert Kahn.
TODAY
TechTown, an innovation district in Midtown Detroit, is brimming with potential. Thenonprofit provides entrepreneurs and start-ups in Southeast Michigan with programsand partnering opportunities. The character of the area itself is unique, featuringbuilding infrastructure that played an important role in the automotive innovations ofa bygone era that is today rich with opportunity for reuse.

TechTown's vision for the first floor renovation is to create a more,open, collaborative environment of entrepreneurs, along with thebest in class conference center to serve the expanding need forsophisticated and flexible meeting space for the TechTownbusiness as a whole.
The First Floor renovation will open up the interior space byremoving existing partitions and expose the big, beautiful windowsto bring more natural light. The first floor, will host a membershipbased co-working space of mobile entrepreneurs.
TechTown Management Office relocation from the second floor tothe first floor is also part of this renovation project.
