What will Technology look like in 2024

What will the Communication Technology

Look like in 2024 AD?

The Print Era

As we travel through time we stop in the 1600’s. Printing began thousands of years earlier but the invention of the printing press triggered a revolution that began an industry that remained stable for another 600 years (Rawlinson, 2011).

With the invention of the printing press humans were able to create many forms of communication and also a way to record history. We developed newspapers, periodicals and books.

The Electronic Era

Our next stop leads us to Washington on May 24, 1844. The first message was sent by the telegraph. Samuel F. B. Morse sent the message “What hath God wrought?”

This sparked an electronic revolution a revolution we are still developing today. Soon Americans and people around the world enjoyed a world enhanced by such electronic media as wired telephones, motion pictures, audio recording, radio, television, cable television, and satellite television.

The Digital Era

We move forward to the 1970’s. Intel introduced the first microprocessor in 1971. With the development of computer operating systems such as Windows fueled computer purchases.

With the development of the Internet and computers being able to host data the use of Internet surged.

The future of Health Care

In the past people traveled all over the world to see a renowned specialist. With theimprovement of technology doctors could perform surgeries using a robot. A doctorcould be in the United States and the patient in Australia.

In 2024 television will be different. Each TV will be equipped with a face recognition to determine which person in the household is watching TV. Away with the old fashioned cable. 2024 TV is all about catering to each individuals needs. Each person in the household will have a profile on the TV and that profile will only show what that person enjoys watching.

What if you could leave your home everyday with peace of mind. While driving to work you would not have to worry about if you left the coffee pot on or did you leave the garage door

open showing off your new set of tools. What if it did not matter if you did?

Did I leave the

coffee pot on?

In 2024 you will be able to leave your house with peace of mind. The United States patented a product called “Safe House” specifically

designed for your control when you are away from home. Each house will have a handheld device called Safe House Tablet, where you have

the ability to control each plug in your home. You have the ability to lock your doors, turn off lights, close the garage doors. You will not even

need a key to your home because this device unlocks the door for you.

• Parents were excited about the new product as they felt their children were safe.

• Fatalities in house fires and home invasion were at an all time low. • People felt safe and parents felt safe leaving their older children

home. • Alerts are sent out if someone is trying to break into their home or if a

fire has been started. Alerts are also sent to the local police and fire department. This device has helped tremendously with police and fire officials serving our communities more effectively.

• Business and government buildings were required to install Safe House.

Page 11: Technology in 2024 COMM 303 Krista Vowels

• You will not have to leave where you are out and someone needs to get into your house and you are not home. You can unlock your house from your Tablet.

• Each family member will have face and fingerprint recognition from the Safe House tablet and from your outside doors leading to your house. No one will be able to steal your tablet and use it. If someone steals your tablet an alert will be sent directly to police letting them know exactly where the tablet is.

• You will be able to use the tablet to control the amount of energy your home uses and to turn off anything that has been left plugged in your house.

• No more turning around to turn off that curling iron you left plugged in.

• If a child is grounded the parents can control the devices plugged in their room.

The designs became a hit with consumers because you could integrate the media into your own life. The government had free sessions to teach consumers how to use the products and offered incentives for low income families. Once consumers became aware of how the new technology could make life easier it satisfied their Affective and Personal Integrative Needs. The theory places more focus on the consumer, or audience, instead of the actual message itself by asking “what people do with media” rather than “what media does to people (Katz, 1959).

Uses and Gratifications Theory

Self Confidence-Person will

feel secure in knowing that

they have control of

their home and TV and

that they can trust their

doctors

Pleasure-Person will feel happy that they can control how much electricity usage and that

their bills will be lowered. They will feel happy they

can enjoy watching what they want to

watch. People who cannot afford to fly around the world and can

survive surgery.

Empowerment -Person will feel empowered that they have some control on the choices that they make in

life.

Diffusion of Innovations Theory

Safe House Tablet started off slow as mainly innovators where the first to try out this type of technology. By 2023 the government required all new houses to be built with Safe House Technology. Another technology that started off slow was surgery that was performed from a doctor in another country. Individuals are seen as possessing different degrees of willingness to adopt innovations

and thus it is generally observed that the portion of the population adopting an innovation is approximately normally distributed over time (Rogers, 1995).

Once friends and families of individuals in new homes saw how the technology worked it quickly became an overnight sensation. People were applying for the

incentive programs and getting their houses retrofitted for Safe House Technologies. After many success stories of people surviving surgery performed by a robot, more and more individuals started trusting this technology. They are

both still becoming popular slowly as the laggards population are back and forth with the conspiracy issues they have with the government. There will

always be the thought of conspiracy.

Because of virtual store websites such Amazon and eBay we can stock virtually everything. As these products were not a

hit at first, stores were not inclined to display this Safe House Tablet or face recognition Television on their store shelves. The inventors went to online stores. Having a virtual store lets us shift from the mainstream items that stores like to display at

the head of the demand curve and lets innovators focus toward a huge number of niches in the tail. These niches in

the tail could eventually lead to consumer demand(Anderson, 2014).
