AVID is school-wide academic support program that prepares students for college eligibility and success
Specifically targets and serves students who are minority, rural, low-income who do not have a college-going tradition in their families
AVID is for all students
AVID is now prevalent in many schools and districts throughout the nation
![Page 15: Technology High School At Sonoma State University](https://reader035.fdocuments.us/reader035/viewer/2022062321/5681382a550346895d9fd690/html5/thumbnails/15.jpg)
AVID is NOT a remedial program AVID is NOT a free ride AVID is NOT a niche program AVID is NOT a college outreach
program◦ It DOES provide essential strategic
skills to specifically prepare students for college
![Page 16: Technology High School At Sonoma State University](https://reader035.fdocuments.us/reader035/viewer/2022062321/5681382a550346895d9fd690/html5/thumbnails/16.jpg)
Ability: ◦ The targeted AVID students typically receive C and B
grades but are capable of much higher success◦ AVID students succeed in college preparatory courses
with support Desire and Determination:
◦ AVID students want to attend college ◦ AVID students are willing to work hard to get there
Serving Typically Disenfranchised groups: ◦ In many cases, AVID students come from a low-income
household, and typically do not have access to essential resources, information, and opportunities to advance themselves academically or socially
◦ In many cases AVID students will be the first in their family to attend college
◦ Without AVID many targeted students are historically unlikely to attend college
