Application

FieldCare is Endress+Hauser's universal tool for configuring field devices. It can con-figure all intelligent field devices in a plant and supports in managing them. By using status information, it also provides a simple but effective means of checking their health.FieldCare is scalable, offering simple device setup, device maintenance management, condition-based maintenance and life cycle management according to license option. It can be upgraded at any time to extend functionality.

Features and Benefits

service protocols• Supplied with a complete library of certified DTMs (Device Type Manager) for

operation of all Endress+Hauser devices• Comes with CommDTMs for HART, PROFIBUS, FOUNDATION fieldbus,

Endress+Hauser service protocols• Operates all third-party gateways, actuators, remote I/O systems and sensors

supporting the FDT standard• Ensures full functionality for all Endress+Hauser and third-party devices with

DTMs• Offers generic profile operation for any third-party fieldbus device that does not

have a vendor DTM• Integrates all registered HART and FOUNDATION fieldbus devices without DTMs

Function and System DesignFunction

Network connection Depending upon the communication interface offered by the device, FieldCare may be connected via a network or point-to-point to a powered device. The software is installed on a Windows PC, laptop or tablet, and the connection made via a network card, an appropriate interface card or a USB or Bluetooth modem. Access may be via a gateway with CommDTM, or if it supports FDT, via a controller. The phys-ical architecture is mirrored by the nested CommDTMs and DeviceDTMs.The devices are configured via DeviceDTMs. If the device does not have a native DTM, but is registered at a fieldbus technology association, then it can be operated by the appropriate iDTM. Interfaces such as PROFIBUS DP/PA couplers must be either transparent or be supplied with a CommDTM if access is to be made to the connected devices. Devices with 4–20 mA, binary and pulse/frequency outputs can-not be operated.

Fig. 1: FieldCare architecture showing central access to a HART, FOUNDATION fieldbus and PROFIBUS network via gateway and Ethernet

FieldCare allows the integration of intelligent devices into, for example, asset management and process control systems. All configuration and communication information is carried in Device Type Management (DTM) programs (DeviceDTMs and CommDTMs) supplied by the individual ven-dor. If a DTM is not available, access is possible via iDTM. FieldCare has the following advantages:• Open technology, independent of device and

system supplier• Independent of device type (sensor, actuator,

remote I/O etc.)• Full support of installed base• Full device functionality• Independent of communication protocol –

Ethernet, HART, PROFIBUS, FOUNDATION fieldbus

• Vertical integration by nested communication

HART point-to-point connection

Fig. 2 shows a HART point-to-point connection via a HART power supply using the FXA195 USB/HART modem. Since the power supply has a communication resistor, the communication resistor of the FXA195 must be switched off. The connection can be made at the power supply module or the device ter-minals as required.

Fig. 2: Point-to-point connection with a HART field device

If there is no communication resistor in the 4–20 mA signal loop, the FXA195 USB modem must be connected cross the HART terminals of the device with its communication resistor switched on.

Temporary PROFIBUS point-to-bus connection

Fig. 3 shows a PROFIBUS point-to-bus connection for setting up PROFIBUS DP and PROFIBUS PA devices on the test bench or in the field using the PROFIusb PROFIBUS interface.

Permanent PROFIBUS point-to-bus connection

Fig. 4 shows a permanent PROFIBUS point-to-bus connection for setting up PROFIBUS field devices on the test bench using a SFG500 Fieldgate in controller mode.

FieldCare CommDTMs

Please pay attention to the individual release notes of the FieldCare communication DTMs. The system requirements of the DTMs can differ from the FieldCare system requirements.

3rd Party DTMs Endress+Hauser recommends an integration test for the use of third-party DTMs, particularly if the DTMs are not certified.A number of DTMs for third party remote I/Os are known to work in FieldCare in connection with spe-cific component architectures. For more information, contact Endress+Hauser.

Interfaces to Endress+Hauser environment

LCM interface FieldCare can be connected to the LCM databases (Portal or Enterprise). This allows the user access to the common equipment record, spare part finder etc. as well as various LCM applications such as com-parison of current to historic configurations.

SOAP and e-mail interface The optional Condition Monitoring module can exchange data with other tools via an e-mail or XML file.

Launch interface FieldCare can be embedded or started from any SCADA application by using the so-called launch interface.
