TEC, IVRI Pune organised a 3-day Training Programme on ‘Laparoscopy and
Endoscopy in Small Animal Practice’ from 12th
to 14th
February 2020
The Training and Education Centre, IVRI, Pune, in collaboration with Department of
Veterinary Surgery and Radiology, Mumbai Veterinary College (MAFSU), Mumbai, has
organised a three-day Training Programme on ‘Laparoscopy and Endoscopy in Small Animal
Practice’ from 12th
to 14th
February 2020, under the aegis of All India Network Programme on
Diagnostic Imaging and Management of Surgical Conditions in Animals. A total of 29
participants including the faculty from different Veterinary Colleges and IVRI, PG students and
Veterinary Officers from different states such as Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Goa and Gujarat
attended the training programme.
The Chief Guest of the inaugural function of the Training Programme was Dr LB
Sarkate, Ex-Dean Mumbai Veterinary College and Ex-Registrar, MAFSU. Dr GS Khandekar,
Professor Surgery and Course Coordinator welcomed the Guests and the participants and briefed
about the genesis of laparoscopy unit and objectives of the training programme. Dr Amarpal,
Head Division of Surgery IVRI and PI AINP-DIMSCA spoke on aims and objectives of the
project under which different training programmes were organised all over the country. The
Guest of Honour, Dr KN Bhilegaonkar SIC TEC Pune, spoke about the mandate and activities of
IVRI Pune Centre, and thanked Associate Dean, Mumbai Veterinary College, Mumbai for
extending support and cooperation in conduction of the course. Dr Sarkate spoke on the need for
specialised training programmes for the practicing veterinarians and university faculty to refresh
their knowledge and keep abreast with latest developments. He stressed on the importance and
need of minimally invasive surgery also thanked IVRI and MVC for coming forward to conduct
the training programme on the pertinent topic of laparoscopy and endoscopy. Dr HP Aithal,
Principal Scientist, TEC Pune proposed vote of thanks.
The 3-day training programme included lectures on principles and application of
laparoscopy and endoscopy, handling of laparoscopy and endoscopy instruments, and hands on
practice in dry lab as well as cadaver on different laparoscopic/endoscopic procedures. The core
faculty included Dr GS Khandekar Professor, Dr DU Lokhande Professor and Head, and Dr SD
Tripathi Assistant Professor, Department of Veterinary Surgery and Radiology, Mumbai
Veterinary College. Dr Uddhavraj Dudhedia, Consultant Gynaecological Endoscopic and
Robotic Oncosurgeon, Mumbai gave expert lecture and hands on practice to the participants on
laparoscopic surgical procedures. All the participants were very enthusiastic and actively
participated in the training programme.
During the valedictory function held on 14th
February 2020, Dr HP Aithal welcomed the
Chief Guest, Dr AS Ranade, Associate Dean, Mumbai Veterinary College. Dr Amarpal briefed
about the conduction of the training and expressed satisfaction for training facilities at Mumbai
Veterinary College and the keen interest shown by the participants in learning the minimally
invasive surgical techniques. Many participants expressed their views and were very much
satisfied with the training. Some of them were of the view that the training period should be
extended to 5-6 days. The Chief Guest, Dr Ranade distributed certificates to the trainees. In his
address Dr Ranade hoped that the trainees were benefited from the training and gained
confidence in performing laparoscopic and endoscopic procedures. He also thanked IVRI for
initiating the collaborative training programme and expressed his full support for all future
endeavours with Indian Veterinary Research Institute. Dr SD Tripathi, Assistant Professor,
Mumbai Veterinary College proposed vote of thanks.
