Practical ConsiderationsUNIT 15: function•A Function is the role of the object. They require particular considerations such as how to hold them, size, weight, and balance. These considerations are all a part ofERGONOMICS which is the study of function.

The lid should interlock so thatit does not fall offwhen pouring theteapot. Allow for 1/16 “ shufflebetween lid and body.

The handleshould have a generous internal spaceand good strongthickness to promote comfortwhen lifting.

The spout has to be long enoughto balance the handle and pour higher than the capacity of the body.

However, Eastern style handles are more successful in that the grip is a natural pivot. The traditional Western handle above is the least comfortable but it is the convention.
